I asked a previous question about if a believer would kill if commanded by god. I was shocked at how many said yes.
In Iraq and other parts of the middle east the terrorists kill because some very charismatic leaders told them that god wants them to kill for him. Are die hard christians in this country on the path to possibly having the same fanatasism?

Supposedly, Islam's Allah is the same god as the Jehovah of the Jews and Christians. Until around 600 AD, Allah supposedly sent many prophets and none of them said that Allah thought Mecca was important, or even mentioned Mecca at all. Then suddenly, Mohammed comes along and says the Allah wants everyone to bow towards Mecca when praying and visit there at least once. It seems a bit queer that all of sudden, God should decide that this town is so incredibly important when he never mentioned it before.

Are there any Muslim sects that believe that the rules about Mecca are not divinely inspired? Or do all the Muslims in the world actually just go along with this weird sudden fetish that God supposedly developed for Mecca?

I think it's a given that there are certain large evils in this world, famine, war, destitution, terrorism and suchlike.

But what about closer to home?

Isn't it time that religions set aside their differences for their gods and beliefs, and worked towards a common goal of aiding humanity rather than dividing it?

I think a large amount of people have lost sight of what a lot of religion entails - kindness and giving to others.

Just think that if for one morning of each month, every single muslim, christian, jehovah (etc etc) gave up worship and devoted it to doing something for others what could be achieved? Caring for old people? Facilities for youths, coaches for sport, or even just lending a hand to your friend.

Are religious followers so blinded by their own need to get to their utopia, that they forget some of basic fundamental principles along the way? Do you think it's time to believe more in humanity, and a little less in omnipotent entities?

Quote, "In the 1400s, the Inquisition shifted its focus to witchcraft. Priests tortured untold thousands of women into confessing that they were witches who flew through the sky and engaged in sex with the devil -- then they were burned or hanged for their confessions. Witch hysteria raged for three centuries in a dozen nations. Estimates of the number executed vary from 100,000 to 2 million. Whole villages were exterminated. In the first half of the 17th century, about 5,000 "witches" were put to death in the French province of Alsace, and 900 were burned in the Bavarian city of Bamberg."

Why would they be extinct as a result of the flood if Noah obeyed and took them on the ark? If they died out soon after, does that mean God's plan to save the animals was flawed? Most importantly, can you not see that taking the flood story as a factual historical account creates more problems than it solves?

Quote, "In the Third Crusade, after Richard the Lion-Hearted captured Acre in 1191, he ordered 3,000 captives -- many of them women and children -- taken outside the city and slaughtered. Some were disemboweled in a search for swallowed gems. Bishops intoned blessings. Infidel lives were of no consequence. As Saint Bernard of Clairvaux declared in launching the Second Crusade: 'The Christian glories in the death of a pagan, because thereby Christ himself is glorified'."

Quote, "The First Crusade was launched in 1095 with the battle cry "Deus Vult" (God wills it), a mandate to destroy infidels in the Holy Land. Gathering crusaders in Germany first fell upon "the infidel among us," Jews in the Rhine valley, thousands of whom were dragged from their homes or hiding places and hacked to death or burned alive. Then the religious legions plundered their way 2,000 miles to Jerusalem, where they killed virtually every inhabitant, "purifying" the symbolic city. Holy man Raymond of Aguilers wrote: 'In the temple of Solomon, one rode in blood up to the knees and even to the horses' bridles, by the just and marvelous judgment of God'."

Now when all these Christians get to "Heaven" do they expect subdivisions? On a larger scale, Country v/s Country both believe in God but are killing each other here on Earth. How can that be explained? Thank you

I keep hearing Christians say that they can't wait for Jesus to come, etc. Of course, this is a huge part of their belief and I understand how, if you believe the Bible, you would be please to be going to heaven to hang out with Jesus, but my concern is that, as our educational system declines and our degree of religiosity rises, will this not be the impetus, at least potentially, for violence? I mean - and I know this is a slipery slope, but it's really just an example - what if we someho3w end up with a radical Christian General in the army or on the Joint Cheifs of Staff? Could he not, believing that the end would bring about the return of Jesus, launch nukes?

Okay... maybe that's a bit much. But didn't Charles Manson commit the most heinous crimes of the 20th century because of his interpretation of the Book of Revelations? How do we prevent the people who BELIEVE they are Christians from commiting heinous acts in order to bring about the apocalypse?
