They're too humble to know; or too humble to admit it!

Probably not. They probably don't think they are that humble but those of us around them know they are. Once they start thinking, oh look at how humble I am, then the issue of self pride comes into effect taking away the humility they once had.

Good point and I would have to agree and say 'no'. Humility is not a competition, though sadly some people get caught up in the game of 'I'm more humble than you.' and thats not what its all about.

Yes some humble people know they are humble. Webster defines it as follows:

not proud or haughty : not arrogant or assertive

I have tried to instill in my children humility by not encouraging bragging, showing off, and other behaviors that are what I would consider opposite of humble.

Great philosophy. I believe your right. Whats just as deep is most people who don't believe there humble are being humble by saying there not humble. Being arrogant is giving yourself credit for something instead of letting others speak for you. If you believe your humble your giving yourself credit for this state of being so your actually arrogant. It's not very hard to understand but most people make the simplest stuff difficult. I believe I can be humble at times and be totally arrogant sometimes. So neither describes me totally all the time. Most people who show off are actually pretty humble because they are asking you to validate them. They need outside approval. The flashest people are always pretty nice to me once you get to know them. But those who could give a care about what there close friends and familythink of them are arrogant. They move threw life not drawing any attention because they don't need outside validation. BECAUSE TO THEM THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE AND NO ONE CAN TELL THEM ANYTHING ABOUT THEMSELVES. Humility is something you cannot teach selfishly. Because it's a insecure subconscious state of being. Humble people judge themselves from the outside in. Meaning they care about what there loves ones have to say. The trick is to be deep and humble. Then the only judgements you honor are the ones that deal with your personality. Because how people view you in shallow ways doesn't matter. If your always conscious of your loved ones thats humility. You have to be insecure in a good way to be humble. I care about what the people I trust think of me. I believe this is humility. But you cannot tell me that I'm not beautiful on the outside. I'm this way because God made all of us unique and beautiful physically. To me ugly only applies to personality. If someone doesn't believe I'm beautiful It doesn't bother me because that person has the right to there own opinion. peace and love

I don't think it can occur to you that you're being humble. You'd think that what you were doing was the only possible way of doing something and making it acceptable to God. So there's no way to be, but humbly.

Haaaaaaaaa. That's great! You're right. The moment you think you're humble, now you think your great because you're humble and now you're not humble anymore. It's a catch 22.

A truly humble person would not know they are humble.

It is ego that says - 'I am humble' and that is when you are not.
