James 2:17

I go to a mainstream Methodist church that is "inclusive". Homosexuals are welcomed and encouraged to belong and be involved in the full life of the church. No one judges them, no one preaches that they are going to hell.

Many mainstream congregations are looking closer at the issue of homosexuality, and realizing that no one has all of the answers, and so are relaxing their stance on these issues.

Methodists, Episcopals, Presbyterians, and even some Baptist churches have broken with the larger associations in order to welcome all into God's loving arms.

Why do some people have such a hard time with this?

There are many theologians that are studying the original texts, etc...and are coming to different conclusions about homosexuality than the traditional churches stance.

Many will say that, "my Bible says it is wrong, etc..." But, how can you not respect other's beliefs and interpretations when they come to a different conclusion?

I was told he wants love. And he is also perfect. If he is perfect why does he want something more? Paradox.

I think the Buddhist conception of perfection(enlightenment) makes far more sense.

My point is- who cares whether we are causing global warming or not- Don't you think maybe it's a good thing to pretend it is and learn to be better to the earth? Maybe believing that we are causing this and learning to pollute less and conserve more is a good idea? Even if we aren't causing global warming don't you think maybe it's a lesson to learn anyhow?

On an individual level, and as the church?

I'm both excited and nervous about the prospect of finally meeting Jesus face to face. I guess it's a bit like finally meeting up with someone you've got to know over the internet.

Do you think Christians are going to see the light of their ignorant ways any time soon?

I have noticed several JW's on here that feel it is their life's mission to post Watchtower doctrines and NWT verses in an effort to convert people... I generally try to criticize only religions and not their followers, but this one truly is an issue regarding the people themselves and not simply their indoctrination.

Mark 8:27 And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Caesarea Philippi: and by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Whom do men say that I am?
8:28 And they answered, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others, One of the prophets.
8:29 And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ.
8:30 And he charged them that they should tell no man of him.

Why? This same story is repeated in Luke (9, 18-21) and Matthew (16, 13-20). Why was it so important that no one knew who he was?

I know that when you meditate you gain insight and it changes your perception on many things.
Can anybody explain to me what exactly this experience is like, and how it changes you afterwards?
Or, can you refer me to some sources that would help me understand more about it?
Preferably, articles with less Buddhist terms that are hard to understand.

If one brings up the various atrocities committed in the name of God by the extremely devout, they are always branded as "not true Christians." But many of these ppl (conquistadors, witch hunters, KKK) were very devout. You often say you will be forgiven for your sins if you believe in God. Surely these extremely devout historical figures went to heaven. Considering how morals change according to the times (slavery used to be seen as morally necessary by the masters, conveniently) how can you say these terrible and devout men were not true Christians? They believed more than you did. And according to their peers they committed no sins.

And yet you proclaim for sure that the you are a Christian who will be forgiven for your sins and go to heaven.

How do you know?

Faith is malleable according to the necessities of the time.

I'm not, 'cause I'll just be re-incarnated or come back as ghost! Please don't talk about what I said, I just want to know what YOU think of being afraid of death, not your opinion on what I think of it!

It seems to me that Satan could trick the pants of anyone, anyhow, any time. He could get any one of us to believe in a false book (whether that book is the Bible or a science book, in your opinion). But one proud Christian told me that Satan is NOT smarter than her. Wow. Well, if you think you're smarter, or you think Satan's smarter, please say so NOW.

Come on folks, come up with some new rhetoric...this is old and tired...

When the "sin" of homosexuality defines a lot about who you are and what you do...there is no way that one can hate the sin, but still love the sinner. I live in a 17 year gay relationship, you most certainly would not love that...many of my friends are gay, you wouldn't love that,...I go to a church that is accepting of gays...you would not love that...

You cannot love me and yet hate my sexuality...no more than you can say you love a heterosexual, but hate the fact that they are straight...it just doesn't make sense.
