I am reading a book, Odd Thomas, and the character finds a "meditation" card in the pocket of a dead guy.

It is explained as being...a card with embossed "stuff" on it depending on what is being meditated on. The person who is using the card runs his or hers fingers over the embossed "thing" over and over a prays. They said that someone praying for peace would have peace signs or someone praying for the environment might have trees or animals or a persons name...etc.

Are these real? Or did they make them up for the book? If they are, any info would be great, it has sparked an intrest!

I'm guessing that most of us have reported someone at least once by now. So, (aside from things like cloning other users or other obvious harassment) what sorts of things are you more likely to report someone for?

Swearing (dodging the profanity filter by modifying words so they don't get filtered out and turned to stars) ?

Point Gaming "I don't know...2 points!" (If you don't know...why did you answer the damned question?)

Blasphemy (Anyone who says something you consider not appropriate for your religion)?

Posts that have such poor language usage that they're nearly unreadable? "y r u made ate teh peeps?"

Really long answers that are obviously cut and pasted ?

People who post questions that are nothing but a rant...or proselytizing?

Generally trolling and muck raking?

Or something else that gets in your craw? Please specify.

Thanks to anyone who answers!

Does the fact that there are more people who follow the other major religions place emphasis on the fact that everyone has a different opinion of God? Those religions have just as many people who believe and the same amount of miracles but with a completely different belief system are likely just as correct right? It seems narrow minded to assume Christianity is the only possible truth.

Carbon Dating, which is undoubtedly accurate and proven so, has shown that there are rock layers layed down hundreds of millions of years ago. The Bible refers to the age of the earth as 4,000 years right?

Please be specific. What would it take to cause you to accept that God exists and that he wants to have a personal relationship with you? What kind of proof or what kind of sign would be sufficient?

I have heard so many Christians say "You're going to hell!" "God hates you!" "That's a sin!" At every school I've been to, they discriminate and treat gays like lepers. I mean, not all Christians are like that, just 99% of the ones I know!!

I recently saw on the history channel, a story about the bible code. Have you heard of this, and what do you think about it? I am saved, and I am a sceptic on most things that are not in the bible. The bible code seems, well doesn't seem to, it does predict things that has happened. I do not know how to take this, because the bible warns about adding anything to the bible. But it isn't really adding, well I don't know, what do you think if you know what I am talking about. This is for christians and not atheist. Unless you want to be serious.

I am a teenager and I want to become religious. I feel that it's the right path for me. I have a slight problem though. I am a little embarassed to randomly ask my parents to bring me to church and get me baptized. I was never baptized as an infant. I don't know why, as my parents were both Catholic, but I never was.

I went to a movie last night, with a girl I've liked for a long time. We saw the Blades of Glory movie (hilarious!) and we walked into the concession area, both of us still cracking up and there was this beautiful moment. I just loved the way she looked all happy and laughing, so I planted a kiss on her. I've done this many times in many places, just like straight people, but this time a lady was walking by with two little boys. One of the boys pointed and said, Those girls are kissing! And all the mother said back was, "that's why they won't go to heaven"

I've had it with you people. What has to happen in order for you to get some manners?

Does atheism require faith? If so, in what?
How is it different than faith in a diety?

I did not say anything about right and wrong. To me, right and wrong are obvious, basic concepts. I do not equate right and wrong with good and evil. I wondering if other people do.

This question is open to anyone. It was originally directed at atheists because the poster that prompted it was referring to atheists.

So my question is, in your opinoin, what are good and evil? Are they the same as right and wrong?

Check many of the answers to this question and ask yourself if this speaks well of the rationality and peaceable nature we claim we represent. I was dismayed myself.
