Check many of the answers to this question and ask yourself if this speaks well of the rationality and peaceable nature we claim we represent. I was dismayed myself.

Why would someone necessarily know the answer? That's why people ask questions, people! The tone of the question was civil, if naive.

This also pertains to our supposed morality. I'm noting how many people quickly jump to excuses and defenses rather than just saying, "yeah, shouldn't have done that."

This will be interesting.

Few belligerent answers?
Kjelstad – “What a tool. Your words, not mine.”
KryptonOne – “Haha. . a "Tool" for god. . That about sums it up doesn't it
So you don't see the point of living without your belief in your imaginary friend?
I hope you don't lose your faith. It'd be a shame if you had to commit suicide.”
ZeroCool – “You're right... everyone who doesn't believe in your god and live their lives according to your dogma and doctrine should just lay down and die.
CD - Why would anybody want to be a slave to your god? He is the most evil sombitch that ever lived, if the story is true that is.
Sleeper - Congratulations on wasting your life, bunni. I on the other hand will continue to enjoy mine which I believe is the point.
Guitargurl - That is RUDE! we are here because molecules came together and formed the singularity and then..... BAM! the universe..... and everthing evolved, and we don't care what you say, we did come from monkeys!
There are more but I don't have time...

I have to admit...when I first saw your question, I had a fleeting thought of giving a belligerent answer to be a smarty pants. But then I continued reading & followed the link to the other question, and figured I should give a serious answer...darn it!

I think, as a whole, we aren't known for being belligerent. The average Atheist is able to discuss Atheism and Christianity in an intelligent manner, without resorting to vulgarity. Unfortunately, there are those that are opposed to any form of religion or religious discussion, (not, in fact, Atheists - but for some reason, always labled as such), and they are unable to have an intelligent debate, so they settle for debasing someone instead.

Not all persons (believers and non-believers) posting in this Forum are intolerant or hate-mongers. Any reasonable non-believer would be embarrassed by some of the content by like-minded persons. And judging by some of the believer’s written words, some self-professed Christians seem to have wandered away from the “love thy neighbor” reservation.

Please don’t make the mistake of extrapolating the behaviors in this Forum by some persons as representative of the populations of believers or non-believers. What you observe herein is a social aberration of the real populations of these groups. It is both interesting yet sad to see how some will behave when hiding behind the anonymity of the computer.

Why persons think that the anonymity of this Forum grants them a license to ignore common social graces bewilders me. I suspect that these persons would be truly ashamed if their parents, husband, wife, children, etc., learned of some of the things they write herein. Clearly they do their loved ones a disservice and dishonor them with such behavior.

I encourage you to keep asking questions in an objective manner. You will sometimes get useful responses. I try to cogently answer questions so structured.

I did not see any belligerence in the answers....frustration maybe....due to once again being told that atheists are useless things and shouldn't be here....and being told this by an obviously ignorant, close minded person who doesn't have there wherewithal to educate herself.

I for one, have no intentions of sugar coating the truth so that christians can have their warm and fuzzies.

It's a natural response to the ignorance of the Christian asking the question...
