why is muhammad s.a.w. called a child molester?

when most ot the people who call him a child molester, their great-grandfathers & grandfathers married their great-grandmothers & grandmothers when she was in between 14 & 17? so...why do some degrade muhammad s.a.w. for marring a young girl, when their fore-fatherd did the very same thing? hummm', i wonder!

let me see you can't really speak on what was mature for at that time and puberty is when a girl gets her first period and since my mother had her period at nine even in this country she would've been looked at for marriage. take the pioneers they did traditionallly marry girls who were 12 and 13 yrs old and the men were usually in their 20's and 30's and b/c they were widowers or wanted younger wives to produce more children or raise the ones they had w/ their dead wives. it's funny that everyone wants to down this common practice b/c he happened to be muslim but no one is ok with the bible say that the prophet lot(as) got drunk and had sex with his daughters in a cave. but incest is ok. i guess it was ok b/c it was in the bible. that's the reason why i left christianity. it's ok to commit incest ,adultery, and fornication, but to marry someone it just boggles my mind. that's okay i'll stick with islaam.

The history I have heard says that he married a nine year old girl. I can understand why that activity would be criticized. This would definately not be acceptable by todays standards although I cannot speak for the culture that muhammad lived in at the time. I also cannot say whether that is accurate information since I heard it second hand. However, as a parent I can tell you that nine year olds are definately not mature enough or mentally prepared for marriage and intimacy regardless of what might be culturally acceptable.

How about because he was MUHAMMAD, supposed to be Al Mostafa, Sayyid Al Khalq, Seal of the Prophets, the perfect man? How about because the Koran calls him a role model? You don't realize we're not judging Muhammad by the standards of medieval Arabia. Of course child marriage was common and of course many Arabs slept with children. Now how many of these Arab men claimed to be Messengers of God? Why do we expect Muhammad to be different? Because we're judging him by a standard of ultimate perfection that you hold him up to, and it's a moral test that he fails. One who claimed to be a perfect role model for all people at all times should have known better than to sleep with a girl young enough to be his granddaughter. If I followed his example it would not just be a mistake, it would be a crime.

Well he did marry a 6 year old girl (Aisha). The Hadiths that discuss this make sure to point out that he didn't have sex with her until she was 9 but surely noone thinks a holy prophet of God wouldn' t wait at least until puberty to have sex with her. The fact that people commonly married 14 year olds a couple of hundred years ago in AMerica doesn't make Mohammed sleeping with a 9 year old any better.

As a prophet he should have been more enlightened, and not marry a child when he is an old man.
Even if everyone else was doing it, wasn't she 9 when they consummated it?

I have heard other ppl say she was 14.

There is a BIG difference between a menstruating girl and a child. MOST cultures married girls soon after they started their period. It's only in the last half of the 20th century that people are marring latter.

Usually they lack knowledge and understanding of history and the concept of when a girl was considered a woman (i.e. the onset of her menstrual cycle) and how it usually happened when girls were younger in that time frame.
