Also I just saw on CBS news that in England if you say, "please to meet you", to someone, it automatically categorize you into a lower class. This is total contradictory to what I've been taught. I am confused.

In the invites, I indicated the time an hour earlier but I'm still worried the guests won'tcome on time. Any suggestion on how to convinve them to come early?i can't delay the presentations. and i also want the party to finish early.

I'm curious to know the general consensus on what I recently experienced. On Friday night I went to a friend's suprise birthday being held in an upmarket restaurant. I was driving and not planning on a big evening so only had one drink all evening. There were about 5 other big drinkers in the party who ordered about 3 bottles of wine and top shelf spirits the entire evening. When the bill came myself and a few other members of the party put in what we had and a bit extra. The 5 others, who drank the most, just randomly put in $20, $30 and one put in $50 to cover the shortage however this still left the bill $58 short. At no point did they sit down and count exactly what they had and divide the bill. Then they sent the bill down to our end of the table to cover the rest when we'd already put in?? I was totally shocked and pi**ed off that they expected us to chip in. Especially when our end of the table didn't see a drop of their drinks.

that's the least expensive way i can think of at this moment and at such late notice.
ive invited about 60ppl and have a bbq.
we're plannign on going to a club after but. im just thinking over this whole park thing.

if someone who was turning 23 inviting you to their birthday at a park what would you think?

and do you have any suggestions for what i can do instead? (remember it's on the 28th of April) less than 5 days!!!

I am a 6'2" tall female. I cannot tell you how many times I have been approached by complete strangers and asked how tall I am, do I play basketball, etc. It always makes me feel very uncomfortable, and I really find it rude at times. I know in general people mean no harm. But why is it that people seem to have no problem constantly asking me about it, making comments, etc.? Anyone have any good come back lines for the comments?

So my girlfriend broke up with me about a week ago so that she would be able to go on a summer vacation with her ex boyfriend (let's call him Rick). I was a little heartbroken at first, but I had seen it coming (she had been dropping clues the whole time we were going out), so it wasn't that much of a shock.

Anyway, she hasn't really talked to me much since she confirmed her plans with Rick last week. However, I saw her last night at 1:00 AM. I approached her and asked "What's up? Where are you headed?!" She went on to tell me that she ditched Rick at his apartment 'because he's boring'; she had told Rick she was going home to sleep but she was actually going to meet a guy at a bar she had only met through Facebook.

She was drunk (I have never gotten drunk before), so I tried to talk her out of what was surely a bad decision. She wouldn't hear it from me, so I walked with her to the bar. I waited there for an hour till she left, then I left too.

I find it hard work to be really social and outgoing at a party or function. Why is that? I find a lot of "small talk" (especially drunken small talk) to be mindlessly boring and so I lose interest in the whole thing. I don't mind if I'm talking to interesting people about things that I am interested in, but when the conversation is just rambling on just for the sake of talking I just tune out. I can't help it. Is there something wrong with me? My friend yesterday said that I am "not social", like that was something for me to be ashamed of or that it is a problem. He more or less said I was eccentric and weird. Do we all have to be outgoing and bursting with confidence? What about people (like me) who are a little more reserved and don't particularly like social cliches, but prefer things to flow more naturally (if you know what I mean). Now I feel like a social outcast, like I am some kind of a pathetic freak. :-(

My husband and I recently went to our friends' home. The husband had been going through a really rough time and needed some company. He was so glad to see us and we had such a good time, that it wasn't til the day after that I realized that his wife had been wanting us to leave so she could go to bed several hours before we actually left.

Although I know that her husband really needed and wanted our company, I feel that with me being HER friend, I should call and make an apology for overstaying our welcome. She wasn't rude at all, so I do feel like something should be said, just to clear the air and make amends for not being more aware of her feelings.

What should I say? I want to be as polite and gracious as possible the coversation won't be awkward. Any suggestions?

I am curious as to how to place my silverware after I have finished eating. I have heard a number of answers, but they all seem to contradict. From what I have gathered, the knife and fork should be laid parallel to each other with the serated edge pointing inwards and the fork closest to me, but this is all I can assume. The laying, I've heard, can be horizontally, vertically, or angled. Which is the proper method, or are they all acceptable?

one of friends came over yesterday to bake a cake with me for another friends birthday. since its after, we still have easter candy in our baskets- on the table and one on the counter. we also have a few unopened bags of candy on the table. so, my friend decides to help herself to this candy. i thought this was kind of rude considering she didnt ask... it could have been the basket belonging to my sister! i also noticed her reach for the unopened bag, but then let go when she realized it wasnt open. i didnt say anything, but later she went for it again when my mom was around. my mom said she could open it. do you think this was rude? or is it just me? i mean, if i went to a friends house, i would ask to have some of their food, incase it was their siblings, or maybe even something they were going to give away!

Ok, so on the box for my brother's invitations it says to address the outside of the envelope as shown:

Mr. & Mrs. John Doe
1234 Main Street
Boston, MA 02134

But, I am a little confused about the inside envelope. Say John's is one of my mom's friends and his wife's name is Jane (go figure, I know). So, it says that I should put what the graduate calls them. So, would I put
Mr. John and Mrs. Jane
OR
Mr. John and Ms. Jane??
When calling a married woman by her first name, would you say Ms. or Mrs.???

Thanks!

Grandpa is very demanding, he wants my mom to go grocery shopping almost every day, drive him around town, etc. He will be able to drive in a month or 2, (hip surgery)He wants ONLY her to do this for him, and she has a very painful shoulder joint problem.Yesterday she told him she needed some time to herself, he got very upset and said he didint like the "things to be presented like that" He also said,"you can turn me down any time you want, just dont tell me you need time to yourself" He has been tested for Alzheimers and does not have it, but he is a little forgetful. He is going to call later today and ask her to bring him somewhere. How can she turn him down without upsetting him? SHe wants to go shopping today but does not want to bring him.Her shoulder will killing her early this morning and.Other people have offered to help out drive him but he wants only her.She says no to him when she has to, she is just looking for a new, very tactful diplomatic way to tell him no

So, my teenage (18) daughter is pregnant. Here's my questions: 1. She is pretty well set up on major items like crib, stroller, car seat, etc. How do I word it on the shower invites that we really need diapers of all sizes, wipes, lotions, etc.? (the daily esentials) 2. I was the pariah of the famaily for MY un-wed pregnancy status (ironically with THIS daughter). I just (after 18 years) began communicating with one side of my family and now they'll be tsk-tsk'ing this latest development and certainly the "like mother like daughter" comments. I certainly cannot NOT invite them as they'll see it as hiding it from them. Should I word anything differently in the invites to them? Should I write some sort of letter? do I just send the invite "as-is" and let it go at that? My dad will be furious as this makes him a great-grandpa. He hasn't gotten used to being a grandpa yet. The grandkids don't even call him grandpa, just a pet name that doesn't reflect grandpa status. HELP! shower is 5/6

I'm the average American male. I can be in and out of the restroom within 2, or 3 minutes, including washing my hands...1 minute or 2 more if I have to sit down.

I know y'all have more to do, but I've end up waiting what seems to be an eternity for women who have passed through my life.

I know I'm not the only guy to feel this way, but I got the grapefruits to mention it.

I did have an ex who also asked what y'all do in there that's taking so long, so one of your own, so to speak, also wonders why.

I know y'all have this or that to do, but damn, others are waiting on you... some are also women.
