I mean do you pick them up with your fingers, put little toothpicks in each one, serve them with a "pickle fork" or what?

If you are serving a formal dinner or a 'cocktail hour' (can't think of the right word, but hope you get the idea), then you want little toothpicks for each one. If an informal buffet, then a fork or tongs to pick up the pickles to place on your plate. If a picnic or just relatives and friends, very informal, then just pick them up with fingers.

You could put a little toothpick holder right on the plate with the olives - place it as part of the arrangement. I also suggest putting a pickle fork on the plate also. I wouldn't put a toothpick in each one. Too much trouble!

My family always put them in a bowl, or in a compartmentalized veggie dish, with a serving fork or spoon, and we would take what we wanted onto our plates and eat them as finger food. I'm not sure if that's proper etiquette, it's just what my family always did for big feasts like Christmas or Thanksgiving.

My favorite way of eating olives is either on a cracker with cheese, or in a martini.

I always serve them with toothpicks. Forks seem sort of silly and fingers are kinda nasty.

Mmmm... olives.

In a martini!!!! Just kidding...put them in a small dish with a little of the juice. Put the toothpicks beside it. Some of them come in cute bottles...never use your fingers...sometimes I stick a few of them with toothpicks to get them going...

Oddly enough I have an olive server....kind of a long narrow, canoe-shaped dish that I use for casual parties and stuff, I usually will put a couple of little forks Next to it for guests to use. I'm not quite gay enough to own olive forks or olive tongs, so I use shrimp forks.....which are a bit more butch :-)

I love those huge black olives stuffed with feta or bleu cheese!

Are you serving them as appetizers or on the table as an accompaniment?

For appetizers, toothpicks would be fine...if they are on the table, one of those little forks would look better.

A pickle fork or small slotted spoon is best. Just be sure to have a small dish for pits.

I've always put them in a little relish dish with a small spoon for serving. Antipasto is popular here and that's the way everyone does it, so I can only assume it's correct. (I live in a snobby area, they'd know.)

pickle fork or small spoon works best.

Watch out for my son, he'll eat the whole bowl! :)
