Last night I was in my backyard and there was this very large flying insect flying around. It was about the size of a dragonfly, except it looked more like a slim spider combined with a dragonfly, and it's wings made a very loud buzzing noise when it flew. it was dark colored and had yellow stripes on it i believe, didn't want to get too close to it as it looked harmful, unlike dragonflies. I live in Georgia (USA) if that helps any, but i've never seen one before in my 18 years of living here. sorry for the vague description, thank you

I am having a bit of a debate with a raw-food guru whom I very much respect but who I think may be fudging the facts on a certain issue. Namely, he claims that if chimps (of any species) have an abundant supply of plant food, they will eat virtually no meat (either vertebrate or invertebrate).

Is this true, or will chimps and other largely herbivorous/frugivorous primates continue to eat meat when they have sufficient plant food in their habitats? Also, whatever your answer, what is your source?

Thanks!

Isn't it possible that the animals are already named by their own parent? Animals may designate names to their young that we do not even know about.

In the animal world promiscuity is a way of life, while in society it often has devastating consequences. Since the animal kingdom appears to be functioning in perfect harmony, I am wondering if this prolem affects animals at all. If not, then why not?

My girlfriend just bought fly tape. Basically, it is tape you hang from the wall. When flies go near it, they get stuck to it.

Personally, I think this is evil. The problem is that they don't die, they just have to "stick" there and starve to death.

I have no personal affinity for flies, but "fly tape" is just rude!

Anyone else agree?

Periodically people claim that they have seen a very large mountain lion like mammal here in East Texas, but he is black. I didn't think much of these sightings until an extremely credible individual that I know saw one cross the highway while going to work one morning. He works at a school in the back woods here in East Texas. He indicated that the large cat was chasing a large dog, and that they disappeared in the woods. I know mountain lions do not have a black form. We live in Northeast Texas. What species of mammal would this most likely be? I have a couple of ideas, but want to know what others think.
