I know whales are mammals, but dolphins?

They are mammals even though they lack hair in the adult condition. They have mammary glands and give birth to young ones. They have all the characteristics of mammals. As they are adapted to an aquatic life, it might give some the impression that they are fish. But they are by all means cetaceans.

Dolphins and porpoises are most definitely mammals. They nurse their young with milk produced in their mammary glands , are warm blooded, and even have hair at some point in their lives. They are members of the order cetacea along with other toothed whales like orcas.

There is a dolphin fish (Mahi-mahi or dorado), which is actually not a dolphin at all.

Porposies certainly are. As for Dolphins-- be careful-- A "Bonito" is of the Dolphin family but it is certainly not warm-blooded or a direct air breather!
