Periodically people claim that they have seen a very large mountain lion like mammal here in East Texas, but he is black. I didn't think much of these sightings until an extremely credible individual that I know saw one cross the highway while going to work one morning. He works at a school in the back woods here in East Texas. He indicated that the large cat was chasing a large dog, and that they disappeared in the woods. I know mountain lions do not have a black form. We live in Northeast Texas. What species of mammal would this most likely be? I have a couple of ideas, but want to know what others think.

I asked my brother again about the incident on the cat he saw. The dog that the large cat was chasing was hit by a car, in crossing the final lanes of traffic and was killed. The cat kept going into the woods. And it was a large cat like creature similar to a mountain lion, but black.

Another dog. Nothing chases a large dog. People's eyes decieve them. They may beleive it but that doesn't make it true. I have seen many odd animals but when I go back and look if its possible its always something else. Light and movement just play a trick on the eye.

People recently have killed animals they thought were strange new beasts. Had them tested even. Said they were the chupacabra even. Coyote with the mange! Ignorant! Saw one myself last month. ITS WAS A TASNMANIAN DEVIL!

Black panthers are seen all over Texas and other states. Big wolves too. Ever seen here a deer hunter shoot one? No! An occasional mountain lion, a feral hog, a stray dog but no black panthers.

A Jaguar from Mexico or a Black Bear mistaken for a big cat or a mountain lion that loked black because it was seen in the dark.

Jaguars once inhabited Texas and they do have a black form. If these are really Jaguars someone needs to be informed..maybe they are extending back into their former range..which would be great!
