Now I realize they roam at night but why do I smell them? You like them? I do.

Skunks are nocturnal animals so they are far more likely to give off their skunk aroma at night. Also, at night the air tends to be cooler and more still so smells are stronger and stick around. In the daytime, strong smelling liquids evaporate faster so the smell does not last so long in the air.

They are active at night but that is probably not the only reason. You may live in a region where the air is lifted by heating in the day.

I love the smell of a distant skunk.
