He can only say Mama (mother), Baba (father) and hyme nursery rhymes. He is able to understand our instructions, yet he won't talk any words. I read to books to him, encourage him to talk, listen to nursery rhmes, everything. He is on follow-up with his paediatrician, and will be sent to see a speech therapist if he doesn't talk by age 3. I don't know whether is it necessary to do this? His father speaks late too. Can it be genes? I should say my son is very talkative, just that I can't understand his baby talk.

My brother in law is 14 years old. What bothers me is the way he picks my son up. He always pick him up with my son's buttocks resting against his crotch. He will walk a few steps and then put him down. When I confronted my mother-in-law with my concerns she said because he has back problems and isn't very strong, that is the way he has to pick him up. When he puts him on his lap its never on his knee or thighs. My son's buttocks are always centered on his crotch. The entire time he visits, he is playing with my son. Am I being over protective? Are these things innocent and I'm seeing something that isn't there?

She is two years old. She covers her eyes and says "it's okay". We try and not to have the light on when shes around but sometimes its just unaviodable like when we are eating at night. My mom says we should let her cry and force her to get used to it. I really don't like hearing her cry. I love my niece to death. How can I help her rid this? Thanks in advance.

My neice is 2 years old and is petrified of the vaccum cleaner at my home. She is fine with the one at her house but screams, sobs and jumps up and down to be picked up as she is scared of it. Why could she be scared. Im only 15 and don't really know how to help her rid this. I try and tell her its okay that it won't hurt her. It doesn't work and she screams at the sight of it. How can I help my neice. Thanks in advance.

This is the 6th day of coughing and runny nose. This is the 4th day of pale skin, reddish sunken eyes during activity, super cranky don't feel good attitude, complaints of "almost" threw up. Nausea seems to be going away, but dizziness complaints started today... Gladly...appetite is returning today!! Temp today was only 97.

He does not have, and has not had, sore throat, ear ache, chest congestion, fever, sneezing, pain or yellow mucus...

Doctor says it is a cold and not to worry.

I know my son. Something else is wrong.

Can anyone help me with this? If I'm being paranoid...please tell me that too!!!

Thanks so much!!

I don't know if that is what is happening but my 2 year old son wakes in the middle of the night screaming. He doesn't want me to hold him or even touch him but he just wants me near. It is hard for me to get him to go back to sleep as he is wide awake by the time he calms down. This only just started happening a couple weeks ago.
Does anyone know why this happens or if there is something I can do to help him?

we had a cat since it was 2 mo old-2years. after i had my daughter, we became afraid that the cat would hurt her, and put cat out side-then after 2 weeks it was gone! this was about 1 1/2 yrs ago. my daughter and i want a cat or a small dog. he says no way,not until she is old enough to spend time with it, feed it and pick up after it. is he being resonable. I bug him for one, but he says no! what age is good for a child to ahve a cat or dog. he wont budge for a smaller pet either, only a fish. I want her to have a pet she could pet/touch.

I really wanted to get some other moms' opinions as to what toys kept your toddler entertained, withstand the test of time, wear and tear and all that other good stuff. Thank you!

How do I stop my 2-year old son from throwing EVERYTHING he touches! PLEASE HELP! I've tried timeout and spanking (I am not a big fan of spanking and do not want to try it again). I can not get through to him that throwing is unacceptable. He has hit his 8 month old brother in the head with hard toys many times. He has broken many dishes, glasses, candles, etc..... If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate them. Thanks!

We are bored of building towers/duplo and painting. I've been teaching her colours using coloured bricks and big coloured mats I made. Now I'm looking for new, fun games to play with her, possibly incorporating numbers, alphabet, animals - any ideas?

Does anyone have any tips on how i can get my almost 14 month old son off of baby food!! I don't want to say he's a picky eater, he's just not very excited about trying new things! We don't force him to eat things either, i'll try something and if he doesn't want it, then that's it, I won't force it on him! I have even tried to let him play with the new food first and then try to offer it to him the next day, and sometimes he wont' even touch it, (but then he'll try to eat fuzz or other crap off the floor) I don't get it, maybe it's the texture he isn't used to, b/c he'll something like bananas out of the jar if it's babyfood, but then he wants nothing to do with the real thing!!
Thanks for the advice!!!
