My neice is 2 years old and is petrified of the vaccum cleaner at my home. She is fine with the one at her house but screams, sobs and jumps up and down to be picked up as she is scared of it. Why could she be scared. Im only 15 and don't really know how to help her rid this. I try and tell her its okay that it won't hurt her. It doesn't work and she screams at the sight of it. How can I help my neice. Thanks in advance.

Let her play with it when its not turned on for a while and then make a big mess with her and then explain to her that it needs to be cleaned up now and ask her how you would do this, help her come up with vaccuming it up but let her try to find other ways first. Then ask her where the vacumm is and aske her how to turn it on, let her take charge of it so that she will feel in control. before you let her turn it on make sure that she understands that it will make a funny noise once its on and that you can turn it off when it happens if she doesnt like it. While its on make it a fun game, but dont scare her with it.

good luck

Well i have two children and have raised a few of my cousins, My 2 year old had the same problem with his grandmas vaccum. he was fine at home but if we stayed with gramdma he freaked when she would vaccum......i made him cry it out...i didn't give into his crying......he thought he would get his way and i made him sit on the couch while the floor got vaccumed....his eventually gave up on crying and now he has his own toy vaccum and he likes to help his grandma, and at home he helps me! I say put on some head phones and let her cry it out....the more you give into her crying the more she is gonna do it. I KNOW IT SOUNDS MEAN, but some kids need tough love to help them get over a fear.

Apparently it scarse the heck out of her, maybe its Size,The niose it makes,What ever,That Is not the Problem,Your niece being scared of it!Do not try to forse her to like it,She won,t!What you have to do is keep the vaccum away when she comes to visit and do not take it out to she leaves, stick it in closet if have to!Trust me,She will out grow it,And when she,s 4-5 take it out and watch her response,i bet she,ll look at it funny but will not be scared when you say everything about it, That your Saying Now!She,s just to young to get over the fair,So she can,t understand! Its no biggy, just put it out of site to she gets a little older!Good Luck,Hollywood

well, you see my 2year old sister is like that too.
Now she is used to it. How? Well, I would give her a lolli-pop or any kind of candy. Then,I'll tell her throw the wrapper on the floor so she did and i told her ....Guess what you can pick it up withthought touching it. She Said " Really". "How". and isaid magic. Just vaccum it.
And now she fights with me to Vaccum.

If it just has to be around when she's there, just leave it out on the floor. Make it a sort of "permanent fixture" in your living room or some other common room. Eventually she'll cease to notice it.

I would suggest that you just not vacuum around her or have the vacuum out when she's there. That's my real solution.

Have her help you vacuum. When you turn it on make a silly face at her and show her it's not scary. Put some cheerios on the floor and let her help you suck them up. She'll probably think it's funny.

Don't vaccuum when she is there and keep it in a closet. For some reason the sound or the look of it scares her and she doesn't feel safe......no need to put her through it. Time will get her over it.

just keet it away from her

but when she forgets about it bring it out and ask her what scares her

then turn it on while you hold her\

then let her touch it while its on

then you can vacuum

it takes a while or she might surprise you but if you can't handle it jus keep it away from her

The noise could bother her. Or she just doesn't like your vacumn cleaner.

I don't know my daughter was afraid of ours too. Try having her help you vacuum, tell her she can help push it. Or if she won't just hold her and vacuum real quick.
