This is the 6th day of coughing and runny nose. This is the 4th day of pale skin, reddish sunken eyes during activity, super cranky don't feel good attitude, complaints of "almost" threw up. Nausea seems to be going away, but dizziness complaints started today... Gladly...appetite is returning today!! Temp today was only 97.

He does not have, and has not had, sore throat, ear ache, chest congestion, fever, sneezing, pain or yellow mucus...

Doctor says it is a cold and not to worry.

I know my son. Something else is wrong.

Can anyone help me with this? If I'm being paranoid...please tell me that too!!!

Thanks so much!!

Many flus last 10-14 days. What you describe are significant symptoms of the flu.

The fact that his skin is pale, and his eyes are sunken shows that he's probably not getting enough fluid. Keep pushing the fluid. Pedialyte is good, but Gerber makes a better one now. Keep pushing the soup too. The more hydrated he is, the better he will be. Don't give him major meals yet, keep pushing the lite stuff.

If his fever has gone down, then he doesn't have an ear infection or strep. If his fever spikes to over 101 again, he should be rechecked.

If his temp is now 97 - you didn't say if it was with or without tylenol, then he is getting better. Keep him fully rested, and don't encourage outside play until he's 100%. He will have bouts of "i feel better now so I'm going to act like a boy" - but probably will tire easy.

When he's better - talk to your pediatrician about getting him the flu shot next month.

Could be an intestinal virus. Nothing you can do for that.

Without symptoms a doctor can do much. He really can't even suggest tests without the right symptoms.

You have insurance, money for tests.

In no significant imrovement in a week or other symptoms more serious appear see a doctor.

But with out swollen glands, feaver, cough doctors will not prescribe anything.

Fluids.

Try some gatorade a little

Tea.

OJ

Broth.

Don't over feed him.

No fancy foods

Keep it simple.

Maybe some toast and penut butter or jelly, tea with lemon.

Rest. Stay warm. Sleep alot, keep checking vital signs (temp, resperation, color, etc.).

Any possibility there is something nearby that is causing thing. Some open chemical. Some toxin.

Is he chewing on something strange, sucking on smoething strange.

YOu clearned his bed thoroughly, changed the sheets, washed the immediate area down with soap and water, aired the room while he was in anther room.

These are standard procedures.

Take your son to the doctor again and have him checked on again. If they doc says its just a cold and you as a mom really don't feel that's it DEMAND the doc do more! Run tests if he had to. I fought with docs for 5 years about my son and when the finally listed they realized he had growth hormone deficiency. My son is on a shot every day for the rest of his life. This isn't something that could have been prevented BUT medication should have started WAY earlier! If the doc still says its just a cold please get a second opinion. Its your child and he deserves the best! Good luck!

Runny nose and cough does sound like a cold. Could the dizziness be related to not eating well the last couple days. I would give him another day or two now that appetite is back.

He could just have some kind of allergies too. What have you been feeding him? My five year old does the same thing and he has allergies. And stop being paranoid it'll go away just give it a couple of more days but if he gets a fever go to the doctor.

hey You know your kids better than anyone else in this world, and if you think something is wrong other than a simple cold or virus, take him back to drs.
Dr's tryed to tell me my son wasn't sick and there was nohting wrong but when his fever wouldn't go away with meds I took him to the urgent care.....HE HAD SCARLET FEVER.. and they didn't catch it. I'm like WTH..

scarlet fever is Strep throat that has progressed to a worst stage..then it could have gone to Rhumatic fever...

So I would go get him checked again. those symptoms it could be aLOT of things.
GOOD LUCK!!!

If you are in doubt of the opinion that your doctor gave you, see somebody else. It is not at all uncommon for people to search for a doctor that they trust, that they can communicate with to their own satisfaction; It sounds to me that it's time for you to go shopping for a new doctor and in so doing you will be better satisfied about your son's current illness. Ask your friends and neighbors which doctor they are using and set up an ASAP appointment. You owe it to yourself and your son to have complete trust that the medical advice and treatment you're getting is worth the time and money you spend to get it. You should be completely satisfied by each visit to the doctor and if you're not, something is wrong.

Good luck to you and your son. Speedy recovery.

There is this cold/flu thingy going around, both GI & respiratory symptoms. Your son just got it worse. Give it 7-10 days. Make sure he intakes enough liquids, he may be dehydrated by now. If he can't keep things down, get him Gatorade.
