Hi, I have a 6 yrs old son and a 20 month old daughter, we are leaving this Friday for vacation, it will be about an 11 hour drive. Any ideas on how to keep them happy and entertained? Also what are the best things to take to eat and drink on a long drive like that. I have a few toys I plan to take and I have a portable dvd player but does anyone else have any other ideas, this will be a super long drive for them. We do plan to stop a few times but not for long periods. there is a total of 20 family members following each other, so we will not be able to just stop if they are getting bored with the ride. any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

2 1/2 yr old foster boy always wants to watch Dora the Explorer, Go Diego Go, Blues Clues etc the whole time we are home. He will play during this also but when I tell him it is our turn to watch a show the adults would like to see, he pitches a fit and says " I dont want to watch that", "It's my turn" etc even though he has been allowed to watch his show for an hour or two. I suggest playing a game, toys, read a book etc, but he just cries and even with time out will then continue to complain/ cry during our turn at TV. Or even when I jsut want him to redirect to another activity. What can anyone suggest to help resolve this problem? All serious thoughts appreciated!

We have 22-month-old twins (boy and girl), and now that they are grabbing crayons and pens all the time, we notice that our girl seems to be left-handed. Is there anything that characterizes left-handed children/people we need to know, besides obvious accomodations like different scissors? No one else in our house is left-handed, so I don't know if there are common behavior patterns, talents or weaknesses that lefties share that we ought to be aware of.

Ok I posted before but didnt get the kind of answer I needed, My child is 18 months knows the potty thing, will say potty and will go sit on the potty. she wants to wear the big girl panties and such but i just cant get her to actually tinkle in the potty she just sits there and not often but will sometimes tinkle right after she gets out of the bathroom. What am I doing wrong, any suggestions? We tried to brib her with big girl things, and we are patient, and she even has her own lil seat that goes on the big potty. We took her to the store yesterday in big girl panites she didnt go at all but as soon as we got home she had an accident although we tried to get her to go potty at the store and when we got home also..... Im lost....help!

My daughter is 2 ( will be 3 in March) when I first introduced her to her potty and started to try training, she took right to it. Now, she won't even try anymore. I will ask her if she has to poo poo, she says no, and 2 minutes later she has done it in her diaper. I'd like to have her trained by age three. Any advice. Please only serious answers here.

There seems to be a lot of cultural differences on children sleeping with their parents. Also, I don't put much faith in psychologists or their studies.

She wakes up in the middle of the night and calls for me. When I go in to see what is the matter, she is crying hysterically. She won't tell me whats wrong, she won't speak to me at all, she won't make eye contact or look at me. She reacts to things that I'm saying, though, so I don't think she is still sleeping. It takes a good half hour to calm her down. Then she immediately lays back down and goes back to sleep like nothing ever happened. Sometimes she has to go to the bathroom, but that doesn't calm her down. During the day, when she is upset, she has no problem communicating what's wrong. Why is she doing this? It really freaks me out!

My son is 3 yrs old and is the pickiest eater ever. I know that I let him get away with it which is why he became this way, but how do you overcome a situation once the damage is done? When I present foods to him, he covers his mouth and makes a gagging sound. He eats nothing but french fries, waffles, and pizza. PLEASE do not say "don't feed him that stuff, he'll eat eventually" because that doesn't work. He refused to eat for almost 3 days and lost 3 pounds. The doctor said that isn't a healthly means, but what is? It's so embarrassing when friends and family are around and I can't really go to any restaurants with him because he doesn't eat anything on the menu. Anyone been through this and have so GOOD suggestions?
