That's what the doctors tell moms these days. No cows milk until the first birthday. Guess what- I've been giving my daughter cows milk since she was 7 months old- now she is 9 months old. She's in the 95th percentile for height, and the 50th for weight. She's extremely healthy too- so those doctors who think it's bad for babies can take a hike!

Well, that is the earliest age at which you can offer cow's milk. I personally prefer that my child continues to get human milk, although we do offer cow's milk about once a day or so. She usually just tries a few sips of the cow's milk.

Breastmilk continues to be an important part of your baby's diet after 1 year-old and the World Health Organization recommends continuing to breastfeed for a minimum of two years.

Here is a link that describes the benefits of breastmilk to your baby after 1 year-old, and it also discusses the nutritional value of breastmilk to a toddler.

If breastmilk is not available for your 1 year-old, cow's milk is usually recommended. Cow's milk is an easy to find and relatively inexpensive source of protein, calcium and vitamins. However, your child can also get these nutrients from other sources.

The doctor's and everyone would say it's fine, but I use Rice Milk (called Rice Dream- vanilla enriched) in the healthy/non-dairy section. I think that the soy milk is better on their digestive system since they drink so much of it still. I do give my one year old things like cheese, and yogert- but she loves the rice milk!! It also has all the calcium your baby needs.

Any doctor will tell you that your baby should start drinking milk at one years old. But as a parent it is certainly up to you.

There's never really any reason a baby should drink cow's milk. If you HAVE to give it to them, make it organic.. but I recommend soy milk instead.

Yes. They should be given whole milk atleast till the age of 2-3 as the extra fat will help in brain development.

No, stay away from cow's milk. There is no health benefit from cow's milk and most people are actually allergic to it.

Its really good for them, But make sure you get whole milk, because the fat in it is really good for the brain. Call your Well Child Clinic and ask if you are really unsure about it. I used to have to go to WIC (Woman & Infant Clinic) and they help with yours and your child(ren) health. They also help with theirs and your diet plan. So you can ask them and see what they say. But I am being honest with you, It is safe and okay for them.
