Ok I posted before but didnt get the kind of answer I needed, My child is 18 months knows the potty thing, will say potty and will go sit on the potty. she wants to wear the big girl panties and such but i just cant get her to actually tinkle in the potty she just sits there and not often but will sometimes tinkle right after she gets out of the bathroom. What am I doing wrong, any suggestions? We tried to brib her with big girl things, and we are patient, and she even has her own lil seat that goes on the big potty. We took her to the store yesterday in big girl panites she didnt go at all but as soon as we got home she had an accident although we tried to get her to go potty at the store and when we got home also..... Im lost....help!

She will pull the big girl panties out herself and rufuse to do anything unless she gets to wear them and will make the gestures towards the potty saying the words and bringing you into the bathroom but still does potty.

this is probably going to sound nuts... but it worked. i use to take my daughter into the bathroom with me and when i would pee i would say "did you hear that tinkle, tinkle?" and i would act all excited... and then she'd get all excited because she heard it too. then when i would set her on the potty i would ask "can i hear that tinkle, tinkle?" UNTIL SHE COULD DO IT UPON REQUEST!

I have a boy so I hope my method works for girls too. My son was also expressing interest in the potty at 18 months. Many people told me he was too young but i didn't agree. I never forced him, but I never saw the harm in gently guiding him in the right direction. I stayed inside with my son for about 3 days. During that time, I allowed him to run around with no clothes. I gave him whatever he wanted to drink as often as he wanted it and I took him to the potty every 1/2 hour. Sometimes he went, sometimes he didn't. I gave him wild praise every time he did but did not scold him when he didn't. After the 3 days, he was going regularly (with a few accidents) on the potty. Pooping on the potty did not come until much later (27 months) and it wasn't until about 30 months that he was able to sleep without a diaper, but that was fine with me. The process was gradual, as it should be and I think 2 1/2 is pretty early for a boy. Hopefully the same method will work for you.

She may be confusing "tinkle" with "twinkle" and wondering what peeing has in common with the star and its song.
All kidding aside, The only thing you do is have her sit on the potty until she goes and then when she finally does go make a HUGE deal out of it. You might give her a sticker for each time she goes to the restroom. That worked for my daughter. Though...I did find the stickers all over creation - but she was peeing in the potty so I didn't care.

I feel for you, I have partial custody of my 19 month old granddaughter and we are going through pretty much the same thing. I started by asking her to tell me when she pee pees or poo poos. She always tells me after the fact then runs to the potty, sits on it, plays with the toilet paper and flushes. So she has the concept.
You are doing fine. She is still a little young but it will come to her and if you are patient, it will come easier. She is old enough to understand what you are telling her so just let her know each time you clean her up, next time let's do it in the potty.

My youngest had a lot of trouble going on command. She couldn't get herself to go when she was on the potty. She would sit there and "push" with no results. It was frustrating for her & it took her a while to figure it out. For an adult it's like if you had to pee in the middle of a crowded room, you just can't get started. Onestepahead sells a panty that is cotton on the inside and outside with a plastic barrier. You could try that.

I think she is kind of young. It is good that she is beginning and wants to wear panties. Everytime you have to go, she should go with you and sit on her potty. I think you could maybe use pull-ups and panties. The pullups now are like panties and yet like diapers but you won't be cleaning up pee soaked clothes, shoes, floors, etc..... If she stays dry all night, when she gets up get her on the potty.

By the sounds of it shes not quite ready. Maybe leave the potty in the bathroom, put her in pretty pull up pants (nappies like pants) and just forget it for a few weeks, u may find she'll start using it herself or if not then after a break start again, i didnt start with my dson until he was 2 and was completely sorted by 2yrs 5months

Keep trying. If you know another parent that has a little girl potty trained, sometimes watching another child go helps yours want to go. Just keep offering the potty and keep a positive attitude for each step closer she makes.

She may be a little bit young. She needs alot of patience and keep doing what your doing. I would never have gone shopping with my kids in big girl panties at 18 months but since she didn't have an accident she is trying. Keep on going she will learn soon.

Well you've got a head start. I mean, she's obviously interested in it and she tries. You should make her go, like, before you go out and stuff. Eventually she'll get in the habit of getting rid of it herself XD. Seriously, you have nothing to worry about. She's still got time to learn and it sounds like she's doing fine.
