Didn't get the soap, got the pop. I have a neice that when she was younger would run get the soap when her mom asked if she wanted soap in her mouth for saying something out of the way. Some kids are weird that way, I guess.

Yep. Funny thing is, I'm almost 21, have 2 babies of my own, and I've only cussed in front of my parents twice. Those 2 times was when I was younger and I got soap put in my mouth.

Yes, but not from my parents.
One of my aunts did it to me twice. The first time, I was so upset, I didn't tell my parents, because I was afraid they would take her side and just punish me more. After she did it the second time, I finally told a different aunt I didn't want to go play at my cousins' house anymore, and she got the truth out of me. After that, she must have talked to either my parents or the aunt who was handy with the soap, because it never happened again.
The thing that was tricky was that the aunt who punished me was (and still is) both very strict with her kids, and very obstinate about only taking her own opinion into consideration. Both times I was punished by her, it was for using words that were swear words at her house, but not at our house. My parents swore when they were angry or upset about something, like dropping an expensive vase, but very rarely swore otherwise, so I knew what cuss words were, but I knew they were reserved for adult use on special occasions. They also never dropped f-bombs, but I knew from going to school that that was a really bad swear that you weren't ever supposed to say. My aunt had other ideas, though, so the first time I got in trouble for saying "fart" at her house, and the second time I got in trouble for saying "crap".
The soap was nasty, and made me gag, and really only made me more defiant and eager to use bad words. I remember after the second time, I did the obligatory 30 minute time-out that my aunt liked to dish out for everything, dried my tears, and went right outside again and taught my younger cousin the f-bomb. I don't know if she ever used it when young, but I sure hope she did, and I hope she used it in a place where she got maximum exposure and horrified her mother.

Not personally - but I watched my brother have it done. After that, all my mom had to do was threaten the soap.
When I was about 8, the catch phrase was "no guff". I said it so often, my mom threatened the soap, and I haven't said it since - it's like, worse than the f-word!!
I've heard stories from other moms who used liquid soap, only to have their child swallow it down and hiccup bubbles for two days... yuck.

I did, once........... when I was 7 years old and in Grade2. My teacher, Mrs Rynn washed my mouth out with soap because i called a little boy, named Andrew, "stupid"......... He tattled, and I suffered! Thats not even a swear!! Definitely not worth it. The only thing I learned from that experience is to not get caught. Aaaaaaaaaaarrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh

yeah, my mom used to do it all the time to me when I either cussed or when I called someone a name. But I would eat it like nothing, just to make her angry. So she stopped doing that and started to use tobasco sauce.

I did, once, in Beatrice, Nebraska, and rather unfairly, if I do say so myself :-). Luckily, my brother got the soap a lot more than I did.

I did and faked a straight face, and ate more in front of my mom just to show her she can't bring me down.
Over the years and tactics like these, I now control everybody in my family.
