When they start showing signs that they are ready. When they start understanding the difference between being wet and dry. If he starts taking his diaper off then that is a sign. Try taking him to go buy a potty chair and let him help pick it out that will spark more interest out of him. Good luck!

I started potty training my child when he woke up in the morning dry 90% of the time and take off his own diaper when he needed a clean one. At that point I would then throw all diapers out and never let them back into the house unless you have a new baby that needs them.

I started training my son since he was 11 months. Now he is 15 months old and is diaper free at home. I do not use diaper even during nights. He sleeps from 9.00 pm to 8.00 am without diaper and does not wet the bed. he still cannot say that he wants to pee or poop but i maintain the timing and know by his facial expression. or if he is without diaper or pants and he sees his potty he goes and sits on that. I keep he portable potty near him when i think its time.

When he wakes up in the morning dry. Then try this:

Here it is- it has worked for my 2 kids, and others after I tell them........

1. get m and m's handy
2. get a small potty chair
3. get a couple books about potty
4. you need to be home for about 4-5 days straight
5. now you can start. let them run around bare-but
6. Set the timer for 1/2 hour. Tell him/her to sit on the potty for 5 min. (read them a book in the mean time if it's to long for them.) If they go, give lots and lots of praise!!! I mean go crazy!! Give them about 3 m and m's.
7. Set the timer for 1/2 hour
8. Avoid asking the question "you got to go potty?'
9. Timer goes off- ok! What does that mean junior? Time to go potty again he or she would say, or you say it if they don't
10. repeat process all day long. If they go # 2 in the potty, reward with a handful of m and m's. They are very colorful and kids love them!!

11. Praise praise praise. I do spank my kids for behavior problems such as lying, disobedience, and bad attitudes, but never for having an accident. If there is an accident, clean it up queitly, and don't say much at all. Remind them it's ok, but try to make it in the potty next time, or in your own words.

Good luck!!! Hope this helps you. My girl was potty-trained in one day with the method. Took my son a week. Leave pull-ups on them at night just in case.
p.s. if this doen't work at all, try again in a few months.

I started 'pretraining' Maya at 12 months. We bought her a potty seat, and whenever I went to the bathroom, I would put her on the seat (you can do it clothes on, or off) to get her used to it. If she didn't want to sit, I didn't make her.

Make sure to talk to your child about the bathroom. Pick 2 or 3 word for going, and use those consistantly. Like, when you change his diaper say, look , you peepeed, or poo pooed. And then, Mommy has to go potty. Then main thing is to ease them into it. If you repeat the words enough, they will learn them. But you must let them see you or your spouse using the toilet consistantly.

Anyway, whenever I see Maya croutch down to poo, I would pick her up and put her on the potty, then when she went in it I would clap and sing and act completely silly. Now, at 20 months she still wears diapers, but consistantly askes to go potty and uses it about 5-6 times/day, though sometimes she goes, then asks to use it.

My son would ask to use the potty, my daughter would take off all her clothes every time she needed to pee. I think you will recognize the signs when they come. Both mine were ready before 2 years old. Good luck.

It all depends on the child. My niece potty trained herself by one year..... One of the children I baby-sit didn't potty train until he was almost 3... and his little sister was a year and a half...for her all we had to do was buy "big girl" panties. We let her pick out the panties she wanted and told her that if she made sure to use the potty they were hers. She was in her big girl panties in to time

it never hurts to put them on the potty. when they start going then you can start thinking about getting into it more. do not push your child they will learn. when they do start going the best thing to do is to just put they in underwear and expect acident to happen
