Newborn & Baby - October 2007

My 3 week old daughter was 6lbs 12oz when born and she was full term. She now eats 4-6 oz every 3-4 hours. I told her doctor and she did not seem concerned. I am not questioning her ability to be a doctor, however, I thought newborns eat 2-3 oz every 2 hours??? Plus, she always acts hungry. She is formula fed. I wish I could have breast fed (she was in NICU and I could not even hold her for days because I had Staff infection 4 years ago from a knee surgery. :( And the pump did nothing for me). Oh, and she weighs 8lbs now at 3 weeks.

I'm looking for extra large ecomony boxes of bottle inserts, like the Playtex Nurser System Drop-Ins (but not necessarily that exact brand). SAM's club doesn't seem to carry them (or at least, they weren't on their website). Who/ where else would have them? Who would merchants purchase them from?

Is it safe to buy baby formula from places like Amazon.com and Diapers.com??

Also, What about Ebay from discount places that sell medical supplies and formula and have perfect feedback in abundance. I am wanting to purchase the 2oz similac ready to feed. I found some on ebay that are still in sealed box purchased from Ross, the makers of similac.

Is it:

A) No big deal at all

B) Something to be rather concerned about

or

C) Maybe I should just review what I've eaten today since I'm nursing, and perhaps something bothered her.

Thanks

When he was born he was in the 40% then at 2 months he was in the 90% and now its in the 35% should I be worried? Has anyone had this happen to there child?

Our baby was at the peds office today for a yeast infection. My husband mentioned that I am nursing her. She is not pro-breastfeeding at all. I'd love to switch- he likes her and wants to stay. Another post....

She mentioned to him that extended breastfeeding has been shown to cause cavities. Our baby is 14 months old and brushes her teeth twice a day- when I am getting ready for work and when she is getting dressed after bath. My husband was floored when he heard about this and came home upset.

Does anyone have links I could read on tooth decay and breastfeeding a baby older than 1? I looked and really didn't find much in support of or against this "factoid".

Lets not go here: weaning. I work in a poor school and bring home all sorts of things and she has not gotten sick at all except for pink eye last year. She is self weaning and I am happy with her progress thus far.

Is this true and something we need to be concerned about?

I'm concerned I may have to stop when his teeth start coming in. He's 4 months now. When is the soonest I can stop for him to get the full effect? And does your milk really just dry up at some point..even if you continue to pump??

My wife called the doctor to find out what to do about the diarreha, after telling them he was gfcf they told her to give him activia yogurt for the enzymes in it. Problem is first ingredient is milk!! What the hell are they thinking its like they didnt even listen. Any suggestions on what I can do. Obviously docs. office is full of moron.

I've read in numerous books that you shouldn't give your baby anything from a bottle except liquids....water and formula. I've read to not even put juice in bottles only sippy cups and that you shouldn't put cereal in there bottles. But I'm always reading on here women telling others to put cereal in there babies bottle? What do you all think about this?

Hi,
Tomorrow I'll be 26 weeks pregnant with my first baby. It's a boy. Anyway I have a question on these different topics even though the last one is far off lol:

1. When I'm in labor and begin to dialate is it just my cervix that is opening? Are there any changes in the vaginal area?

2. I live in Jeffersonville, IN (near Louisville, KY). When will I get my son's birth certificate and social security card? How do both processes work?

3. My fiance and I have different views on what a kid should and shouldn't have. For e.g. I never wanna give my son any carbonated beverages for a while and even then he'll be very limited; like once a month lol. My fiance thinks that I'll be taking away his fun but I just want him to be healthy. This goes for candy and snacks too. What do you think?

Thank you for your replies everyone

I babysit for a 10 month old boy. He has always napped from 9am-11am and from 1pm to 3pm. With his parents, he has to be rocked to sleep. With me, I can just lay him down and he will sleep on his own. But, over the past week or so he has become REALLy difficult to get to sleep. Not only for me but his parents too.
At home he will scream and cry until he loses everything in his tummy. At my house, he will cry for about 10-15 minutes and most of the time will fall asleep. And when he does it only lasts about 45 min to an hour.
Could it be that he just doesnt need 2 naps any longer. Maybe just one in the middle of the day? Any suggestions?

My daughter's doctor is a bit clueless -- we are searching for another at the moment -- and I'm wondering if the stuff she asks is standard (the questions are not the problem; just curious) or not.

She also repeatedly asks me if I have any questions at each well-baby appointment, and I have zero; I'm wondering what questions people do bring to their baby's doctors -- assuming, of course, no problems going on with the baby.

Give Benadryl?

But I went to my local pharmacy and the pharmacist there told me that benadryl are not for 2 years and under babies!!?? So what are we suppose to do?

Also how will we know if the baby is allergic to nuts and dairy? Doesnt it kill you if you are allergic and eat milk? I think its kind of silly to just give milk or nuts and watch for an allergic reaction, those allergic reactions can be deadly no?
thanks for all your answers ! Ill feel much better after knowing this

Ok,here's what I give my baby:
Oatmeal/rice cereal
Apples,prunes,bananas,pears,peaches..
Carrots,squash,peas,green beans,spinach,potatoes..
She is 8 mos old and has solids 3 times a day.
I want to know when I can start
1.egg yolk
2.Legumes and beans
3.Yogurt
and what else I can give that is a little fattening.
(She is still breastfeeding & having some formula too)
