what are the chances that the kid will be extremely dark?

It depends on genetics. If both parents have parents who have light skin, it is possible the child would have light skin. The further you go down the family line, the less likely having light skin will happen. My sister in law and brother in law have dark skin, they both have fathers with light skin, one of their daughters is extremely light, like her grandfathers, their other daughter has dark skin like them. They are having another child due next week, interested in finding out how genetics will play out this time!

If I remember correctly... I heard that the complexion of a child darkens over time. The baby will probably have darker skin as it gets older. Mind you there's such a common thing where dark-skinned parents will produce a light-skinned child, to the point of appearing almost white, but that would be an albino child... Albinos are common among Africans. Still the genetics are present.

Odds are the child would. Dark skin trumps light skin, so, in very basic terms, it's possible that the couple got a dark skin and light skin gene from their families. If the light gene from both sides is what the baby gets, the baby could be very light skinned. (I have a blonde haired blue eyed friend whose mother is Mexican, so anything is possible.)

Chances are, the baby will be dark, it would be very rare that the child would have light coloured skin.
