I babysit for a 10 month old boy. He has always napped from 9am-11am and from 1pm to 3pm. With his parents, he has to be rocked to sleep. With me, I can just lay him down and he will sleep on his own. But, over the past week or so he has become REALLy difficult to get to sleep. Not only for me but his parents too.
At home he will scream and cry until he loses everything in his tummy. At my house, he will cry for about 10-15 minutes and most of the time will fall asleep. And when he does it only lasts about 45 min to an hour.
Could it be that he just doesnt need 2 naps any longer. Maybe just one in the middle of the day? Any suggestions?

it sounds to me like the morning nap needs to become a thing from the past... 10 months is border line for needing that additional nap... try skipping the morning nap and just doing the afternoon nap... kinda stinks losing your morning downtime, but the good news is, the afternoon nap will continue till school age... :0)
if mom and dad want to rock him it is their choice but i do not recommend it... what you start doing now, you will continue doing later!!

It could be that he needs more activity throughout the day and just one nap. It's NEVER a good idea to have to rock a child to sleep EVERY TIME. They become dependent on that and they love the attention. There's so many toys now that involve jumping or throwing a ball, and other indoor activities that will get them a little sleepy after a while. I would increase his physical activity, give him his lunch, make sure there's a steady sound going (like a fan) and put him to bed. All kids seem to think that they're missing out on a party or something fun when it's time for them to go to sleep, so expect him to fuss a little at first. Every once in a while it's okay to lay down with him (you deserve a break too). But for those days when you have to get things done, just follow the things I've written above.

P.S.
Some kids often fall asleep a lot quicker when you put on light music (without words) while brushing their hair.

Absolutely!!! Even as early as 10 months, babies sleep needs change. He may be sleeping longer at night, or have longer periods of deep sleep. therefore, no longer needs two naps. Try skipping nap #1 and start just letting him have the old #2 nap after lunch.
Also, check w/ his parents about his nightly sleep routine. If it has changed, even a little bit, it could affect his napping.
My youngest son's daycare only did 1 nap a day for the 1 yr olds and it killed me, and then at 2 yrs old, they started waking them from naps at 1.5 hrs. Now, at 2, he doesn't nap very often and when he does, it is only for an hour.
Babies sleep needs adjust as they develop and he just might not need two naps.
You might, but not him!

Good Luck!

I think you answered your own question. At this age babies often cut naps down to once a day, the child usually picks the time. Watch for his cues. All babies are different, some may take 2 short naps and some take 1 longer nap.

Yes, he might doesn't need two naps anymore. Just keep him up til 10am, or even later, and lay him down and see if he falls asleep(It worked with my daughter (9month)).

Take him to a pediatrician if he is having sleeping problems and he hasn't had any in the past, most babies take at least two naps, he could be restless.

I have 6 children. In order for any person to go to sleep he/she must be sleepy. (not tired) Other than that there is no magic to get someone to fall asleep.

between you and the parents make sure hs is getting proper amount of sleep at night. and when he is in your care....get him wore out and tired. do activities with him or take him to the park, then feed him, make sure he has a clean diaper and he should be ready to go. oh yeah and make sure he is warm enough too.
