Hi,
Tomorrow I'll be 26 weeks pregnant with my first baby. It's a boy. Anyway I have a question on these different topics even though the last one is far off lol:

1. When I'm in labor and begin to dialate is it just my cervix that is opening? Are there any changes in the vaginal area?

2. I live in Jeffersonville, IN (near Louisville, KY). When will I get my son's birth certificate and social security card? How do both processes work?

3. My fiance and I have different views on what a kid should and shouldn't have. For e.g. I never wanna give my son any carbonated beverages for a while and even then he'll be very limited; like once a month lol. My fiance thinks that I'll be taking away his fun but I just want him to be healthy. This goes for candy and snacks too. What do you think?

Thank you for your replies everyone

1. Yep the cervix opening, no vaginal changes really until the baby comes out, and then it all goes back to normal. Takes about 6 weeks to heal on average.

2. The hospital will give you all the paperwork to fill out. Whichever state your hospital is in is where the birth certificate will be filed. Both come to you in the mail later, but the paperwork is done the day of delivery.

3. My son is 16 months old. He doesn't have soda's ever... Yet. I think eventually I will let him. Only as a treat, special occasion type thing. Maybe once a week when he is older, when he starts school. I don't want his teeth and stomach rotting! Candy should be limited to as part of a healthy diet. My son rarly has any sweets, he had his 1st birthday cake of course, but other than that, maybe one bite of our desert every month? We don't eat many sweets either though.

Good luck and congrats!

1. Yes, it's the cervix, but when you deliver your baby, he comes out of your vaginal area, causing stretching and likely some tearing. It takes awhile for the area to heal, but don't worry, it does. The doc will tell you no sex for 6 weeks after delivery in order for the vagina to heal.

2. Not sure about IN, but in CA, we just haven't ordered our birth certificate yet, we are being lazy. Our son's Social Security card came in about 3 weeks.

3. I think that everything in moderation is okay. You and your fiance need to find a happy medium, instead of once a month (your choice) or everyday (your fiances choice) you two can do like once a week. You will need to compromise on everything and go both ways. I can totally relate.. but you both need to go into each disagreement with an open mind and compromise.

Congrats on your baby boy! Boys are so wonderful!

1. It's just the cervix softening and opening to allow the passage of your baby and placenta.
2. You will fill out forms in the hospital for the birth certificate and social security card. You will get a hospital copy of the a certificate for purposes until you get the real one. It shouldn't be more than a couple months until you get the real one in the mail and also his card.
3. I don't see anything wrong with kids having pop every now and then, but that is your choice and you and your fiance need to compromise.

1. Its just the cervix opening until you deliver but if your worried about if you'll be "big" or feel different to your fiancee dont worry it all goes back to normal its not left stretched out..lol

2. Many hospitals will file for the SS card for you or give you the paper work to do it on your own. Same with the BC you can either give them the money (about 10 dollars per copy) made out the the Vital Statics people or fill out the form at your own leisure

3. Go with the flow. I am the mother of two and though I swore my son who is now 17 months wouldn't have things, he gets them. Not in large amounts but he gets them. To the woman that says her son is 16 and NEVER has soda..lmfao unless he's still attached to her she doesnt know if he's drinking it or not. I do know my son has tasted it he doesnt DRINK it but he's had a few sips from his fathers cup now and then. As for candy he gets a few bites but mostly its fresh fruits. Believe me you'll lighten up when the baby is here and go with the flow. BTW my Dr's and nutritionist recommend children have 1-2 snacks per day. Snacks aren't bad if you make them healthy ones

When they talk about dilating, they are talking about the cervix, although the vagina will stretch during the actual birth.

Usually they give you papers to fill out in the hospital for the birth certificate and the SSN. You will get the SSN card in the mail and you have to go to the county courthouse to get the official birth certificate. The hospital will give you a birth certificate too, but it isn't necessarily official.

You and your finance are in for a hard time if you disagree about child rearing. My advise to you is to make sure that you discuss these things (away from your child) and come to a compromise you can both live with. As a parent you have to pick your battles. You may not want your child to have candy everyday, and that's good. But if you send your child to a birthday party, you should expect that there will be sweets and its ok to let them have a teat occasionally.

1. your cervix will dialate and efface which means get bigger and thinner. I don't think your vagina changes
2. It depends on the state and city about birth certificate, when your baby is born they will send in the informatio for the SS# (at least that's how it worked for me)
3. It depends on you two, but I don't let them drink alot of soda, maybe for a treat once in a while, candy is really hard to control, as everyone will be giving it to them, but teaching them about healthy eating habits helps curb this a little.

hope that helps.

I am going to answer #3:). I totally agree with you. No soda at all. If my kids get soda they think it is a huge deal. To me soda is a treat as is candy and junk food. For eating a good meal the 4yr old get 2 cookies and the 1yr old gets half a cookie. So I measure them out not too much just enough for a reward for a eating a good meal. As for snack so many good things out there that are healthy.

the vaginal area im not to sure about.

the birth and social security card depend on where you live. i got my social security card it took about 3 months, and his b/c i got the day after he was born!

now number 3 i have alot of views on this, no i don't think kids should have candy and pop everyday, but more than once a month. it's not going to kill him as long as he eats healthy otherwise and you brush his teeth and what not. i got one of those fruit snack thinges everynight as long as i ate my dinner, and on weekends i got soda with supper and lunch one time whichever i picked, which meant i could have soda with lunch on sat and supper on sunday or both on saturday, or both on sunday etc it was up to me, i have good teeth and i am 19 years old and have had nothing more than a cold i think i had the flu once. but thats all just my opinion. i know some parents that their kids aren't allowed to have any of that stuff at all, so i guess at least once a month is ok. to each his own!
