Depends on how long its been going on. 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 12 weeks and 4 months tend to be the markers for big growth spurts in babies.

They tend to slow down their eating and sleep more.

As long as he's not lethargic, dehydrated, losing weight, or fevery he should be fine. If it goes on more than 2-3 days have him looked at.

Sounds like he just finished a growth spurt. My 3 month old is hard pressed at times to eat 3 oz, usually just 2 sometimes less. At six weeks he slowed down on his eating just like yours seems to have done.

Sleepy days are normal too. Remember that growing and developing his little brain is HARD WORK!!! It makes them really tired from time to time. As long as he still wakes to eat, isn't running a fever and it only lasts a couple days, it's completely normal.

Babies will eat when they are hungry and they will eat exactly as much as they need (if they are consistently fed the same thing). Their body will consume the calories it needs to thrive unless there is an underlying issue. If baby needs more calories, they will wake to eat, if they need less they won't or they won't eat as much as the hunger sensation is not as strong. The weight problems in babies happens when the body no longer knows how many calories are in a feed because it's different each time, then they eat until full. If they do this too many times and there's too many calories they get chubby (obviously) however once babies get active they usually burn off the fat and they are also starting table food so it's easier for parents to adjust calorie intake if needed.

That flu has been going around my son is 4 months and he eats 5 oz during the day and 6 oz at night and my son loves to eat. so when he got the flu he only ate just a small amout I wasted alot of formula for a week.I would make a 5 oz bottle and he would eat 2 oz and he kept turning away from the bottle.

He may be going through a growth sprout. Or he might be anemic. But then again I am not a doctor. Have him checked out if you suspect something.

- My sons appetite and sleeping patterns fluctuated as well. Had me worried. These littles ones tend to scare you.

he is probably leveling out. They go through growth spurts and than they don't. They change what they eat alot and how much they sleep. I would not be worried if he is alert when awake and seems healthy

I agree with previous poster, peoples eating habits change from day to day. Especially with babys who are getting ready for another growth spurt.

i have a 3 year old daughter. i used to stress about how much she ate. then someone gave me some awesome advice" a child will not starve to death when they are hungry they will eat". so dont stress. if you are concerned about his sleeping go to your GP or you maternal health nurse o talk about your concerns.

:)
