He might be gagging because it is backing up in his throat. Is he breast or bottle fed? My son was a preemie (Almost 3 months early) and had to be on Zantac for a few weeks after he came home until we figured out that he was throwing up from the milk in addition to the acid relfux. He was getting breastmilk in his feeding tube and when he came off the tube he would projectile vomit. We switched him to all formula (He had formula mixed with the breast milk with a special oil for weight gain), he still continued to vomit. His doctor gave us a sample can of soy formula, and within 3 days he RARELY even spit up.

Like others said, it is common with refluxers. Is he taking medication to treat it? Children with acid reflux need to be treated as it often affects their eating and may lead to a food aversion.

Good look.

my refluxer does the same thing. they are trying to catch their breath at the same time it is burning so they gag. Mine does it all the time.

Unfortunatly it is one more common thing with refluxers.:(

my son had the same thing, you need to talk with his docto ans get a medicine for relief. It is more uncomfortable for him to have heartburn than it is for us
