Newborn & Baby - March 2007

When my son turned 3 months old I realized how lucky we both are that I didn't have to back to work yet. If it wasn't for my husband, after a 3-month maternity leave I would have had to go back. As I looked at my son, I started wondering... how do they care for a such a fragile little baby when a Mom is forced to take her child to day-care. Do they just feed them and watch them? Or do they spend time with them... pick them up and such? I just want to know.

When our second baby arrives in July, our little girl will almost be 2 years old. We need a double stroller, but we are so confused about what to get.

We would like something that will hold a Peg Perego infant car seat. We would also like something suitable and comfortable enough for long (3-5 mile) walks around our neighborhood. The Joovy Caboose looks awesome, but the back seat may not be the most comfy for the 2-year old for extended walks. Also, our neighborhood has hills so we need something easy to maneuver on hills. We don't go shopping a lot, but when we do we would like something that's fairly easy to maneuver. Any suggestions from experienced parents would be greatly appreciated!

Dont want anything fancy, just a couple poses to capture this time. I take pics at home all the time, but I want some professional ones. Sears has a good reputation, right?

It's extremely sad. I'm helping a friend to put together a CD to be played at her daughter's funeral. I'm finding it hard to find suitable suggestions. She doesn't want a hymn or something religious (though reference to heaven or angels is OK). Any suggestions welcome....

Thanks

Statistics are proving that there are other reasons that SIDS occurs, and yet many people refuse to educate themselves on the topics. Take Fatty Oxidation Disorders for example. It is believed that children with undiagnosed Fatty Oxidation Disorders succomb to death because their body is in a fasting state for longer than 4 hours. Yet, people continue to believe that this will not cause organ shutdown or death. I was just wondering why people feel that the only answer to SIDS is that it "just happens". Is it because SIDS is such a feared topic?

I'm a mom who works outside of the home. I nurse my baby in the mornings and at night, and my mother-in-law feeds him bottles of expressed milk during the day. Is it possible to feed him too much when he's taking the bottle? Is there a way to determine if the amount he is eating from the bottle is about the same as the amount he gets when he breastfeeds?

My 5 1/2 month old is starting to hold her own bottle. However, she only ever, fully, uses her left hand. Her right hand she will usually keep clenched in a fist in her lap or sometimes raise it up to balance the bottle but she won't open her fingers. I've tried to open them for her and put her hand on the other side but then she lets go entirely. Does this mean she might have problems later on with her right side? Or am I just being a sensitive new mom?

My husband and I have just started to let our baby cry herself to sleep for naps and at night. So far our baby has been able to cry herself to sleep after a few minutes but after going to sleep for just 10 mins she wakes herself up and will start crying without being being able to put herself back to sleep. We tried going in and comforting her and then putting her back down for her nap but this has not worked. We also tried lessening her stimulation before the nap but this has also not worked. Please advise if you have any suggestions ?

Thank you
