my one month old has about one stool a day she is mostly fed breastmilk with occasional formula the stool is very watery so much that the diaper does not contain it, she cries really hard before the stool for about an hour until she passes it, is she in pain or just scared?

It does not sound bad to me. One time a day would NOT be classified as diarrhea. In fact for a breastfed baby she should be having at least two to five bowel movements a day. I suspect that since your supplement with formula it has slowed down her digestion. I would quit mixing formula and breastfeedings because as a previous poster mentioned it is messing up her digestive tract. Breastfed babies frequently have watery stools.
Alot of times babies cry before having a bowel movement. It has something to do with immature bowels if I remember correctly. I bet it will quit in a month or two.
You could try massaging her belly and bicycling her legs if your concerned. Maybe a warm bath.

your daughter may have diarhea, and she may be in pain when having a bowel movement if she is crying. you should probably choose one way of feeding her. if you know you will not be there for a feeding or dad wants to give her a bottle, then pump in between feedings for the extra milk. then freeze it and use when necessary. if she is still upset, check your diet. are you eating spicy foods, milk, nuts? she could be sensitive to a food you are digesting, remember what you eat, they eat. talk to your doctor, that is always your best bet. good luck.

Call the dr to be sure, especially if she is going like this often. Diarrhea can be dangerous for a baby.
