Every day care is different and everyone working there is different but yes, they do pick them up and play with them and talk to them and love on them but anyone who has their child in a daycare should find out how many babies are with one adult. Where I used to work there were 6 babies per each adult. By the time you feed each one, then go around and diaper each one, you dont get alot of time to spend talking to each baby. They should also pop in alot and scope out whats going on. See if they are talking to them while they are feeding and changing them.

Before I had my own children, I worked in a daycare. It was a very good daycare center (well known national chain). My co-workers and I truly enjoyed being with the babies and wanted to take the best care of them possible. However, there are up to 8 babies in the room with 2 caregivers. In the "baby" room, there are infants from 2 months old to 1 year old. Now, just think, if one caregiver is feeding or diapering a baby, the other caregiver is responsible for the other (up to) 7 babies. If one caregiver has to go to the bathroom - the other is responsible for all 8! Basically, the babies wait all day. They wait to be changed, wait to be fed, wait to be held, wait to be cuddled and rocked to sleep. I really felt I was doing all I could do for them and I felt sorry for them. I knew I would never put my children in daycare.

I've seen so many different daycares in my area handle the babies in their own ways - Some daycares have 'teachers' that are only with the babies, if you are lucky enough to have a day care nearby where the teachers are experienced mommies, they love to play, hold, and talk to the little ones- The majority of care I have seen was the smaller babies spent their days in playpens or cribs in between feedings and changings, which where mostly done after some crying on the babies part. I sympathize for you, I am lucky to be home with my 3rd, my older two were in daycare at younger ages - not too fun for them, they'd rather be with mom! :)

I am a volunteer at a daycare and the room I am in is the baby room. All the baby's are below the age of 1. And we have to was h our hands constantly. We feed them and we play with them and change diapers. It is a really good place, but really it depends on the place to go.

I worked at a daycare for a while and we only had 1 baby under 6 months. This is what we did with him:
Feed, diaper changes, rocking, swinging, bouncy seat, tummy time, more diaper changes, more feeding, you get the point. We did not just leave the baby laying there. We spent time with all the kids, but we made sure we spent time with the ones who weren't mobile yet so that they didn't get lonely.

I had to put my dtr in day care at 3 mos. It was harder for me than her. The truth is you have to find a daycare you like. Look around and tour the daycares. My dtr is now 2 and continues to go to the same place and LOVES it. She is extremely verbal, friendly, and very affectionate. She relates very well to adults. As a 3mos old...they logged in a book when she ate, what she ate, milestones, they take them out in strollers in the play area, and they held the babies a lot for comfort. Basically, you need to tell the caregivers her schedule eating habits, sleep habits, etc. You can call the daycare anytime you want to see how your son is doing. Just remember you have to look around or get a good referral from a friend.

I'm glad you didn't have to put a 3 month old in day-care. That is absolutely ridiculous!!! What is the point of having a baby and then putting it in a daycare with a bunch of strangers? Anyhow they probably throw them in a dirty crib some other baby was in, and barely look at them all day because they are too busy with other kids that should be at home with their mother.
