Yes, my daughter did that.
Once, I went to check on her because she was crying, but when I turned on the light I realised I was wrong, and that she was actually having a full blown giggle fit whilst in the depths of sleep...I just sat there watching until it passed, so adorable!!!
Thanks for bringing back a wonderful memory.

Get a little diary and write down all these special moments as and when they happen- I didn't and really regret it now. I kept thinking, I'll do it at the end of the day/week/month etc, but I never got round to it because of everything that goes on with day-to-day life. Cherish these moments, they don't last long!

My oldest daughter used to sleep with her eyes half open, and then all you could see was the whites of her eyes. She'd sometimes pair that with an evil grin. That gave me the willies, but it was funny. The most adorable thing was when I would ask her if she loved Mommy, Nana, Papa, etc. and she'd smile each time I asked her! When I asked if she loved her great-grandma Trudy, who had died a year or two earlier, she would smile the biggest!! My mom said that maybe she saw Grandma Trudy in Heaven before she was born. I agree that you should really cherish these moments, and I'm sure that you do. (:

My 1 month old son gives a toothless laugh as though he is watching a hit comedy. this happens when he has been fed and is being sung to sleep. It is a very cute thing and enjoy it totally. Just their way of motivating you through the endless saga of feeding and changing diapers:).The smiles and laughs make you feel motherhood is worth it..

People I assume they have a miss-conseption that really small babies cannot laugh.

Though I would struggle to be able to understand what they find funny since they would never be able to understand anything as funny or fun.

It could be a reflex of some kind in the brain to something.
Perhaps you should ask a baby specialist about this.

It could be just that he/she loves being comfortable in bed.

I agree with "vanessalee52480", I do the lip outline with my 8 week ol son and he laughs and smiles and thinks it's the funniest thing ever it would seem. Cracks me up.

I was always told that a baby smiling when s/he is asleep is playing with the angels. I wouldn't worry. Enjoy it and make memories. Take lots of pictures!!

My baby always smiles when she is falling asleep. Don't know what the deal is, but she is 3 months old and still does it!

I don't think you should be worried. It is weird. my daughter cried for 2 seconds and stopped after sleeping for an hour.
