Since the days of Pearson the Canadian Forces gradually developed an association with "Peace Keeping". We seem to have lost that entirely with recent deployments.
Who thinks that Canada could take the lead and create an "International Rescue" agency and entirely give up the idea of "military".? What a great lead this would be to all other nations. Lets sell those submarines and tanks and develop an effective airlift capacity that can bring help and not arms.

No disresepect to veterans who served their country and cause. I myself am a veteran of the military and served in times of conflict.

Yes there is an "18" day Rest and Recuperation, but 15 months is a really long time, and its really hard to keep faith, am I the only one who feels 15 month deployments are endless pits? Please do not respond if you are just going to bash the military, I will report you and laugh as others do the same as you (or at least your answer) is deleted. Thank you :o)

Have you ever noticed how many people, when someone mentions their desire to join the military, say, "Oh, you know you'll probably wind up in Iraq."

Do they honestly think people are so dumb they don't realize that there's a possibility that after they join the military they might be (*gasp*) deployed? I mean, hasn't it been part of a soldier's job description since the dawn of time to go to war if called upon to do so?

I am the wife of a viet nam combat vet....
In hindsight, would you serve your country again, whether it is Iraq, Viet Nam, WW2.......?
Please, honest, serious answers and explain if possible.
And thanks for serving.

A friend of mine is joining the navy.

He said he was asked questions and that they told him he should answer 'No' to all of them....Some questions included "have you EVER had a headace?" , "have your chest EVER hurt?"," made any Contact (talk) with a police?'

He said of course he had a headace in his life, had his chest bothersome (congested) and talked to a police, but he was told to say 'No'. So he answered no.

So my question is, is this lying?

I was in the dep program and I try to get out of the army, but my recruiter told me I had to go back to meps and signs my final contract to ship out for basic training. He told me the only way out was to signed my final contract but do not get on the plane. and since I have no units and still attach to meps I wouldn't get into trouble, and I can go back and join anytime I want. I did what he said because he told me that was the only option. Well when I try to go back into the army with a different recruiting office he told me that I was awol. I discover the GI rights hotline and call them for assistents. Now I have to buy my own tickets and head out for Fort Sill to get out-process(I hope). My question is, is there anything I can do to get a entry level separation due to the cause of my Awol. And if anyone can provide me with some guidance.

I know this girl who is very worried that she might lose her kid. She is getting treatment for being depressed and harmful to herself, she IS getting help but she is still worried that the military will take her child away. Does anyone have any words of wisdom for her that i can relay to her? Is this possible even though she is reconizing the problem and seeking help for it, can they really take her kid away from her?

Maybe after you have so gallantly brought Iraq democracy and freedom you could then invade Ethiopia and bring them some food and medical supplies. Oh hangon - Their would be no economic gain in it. Silly me sorry for MY ignorance.

Just curious. Liberals keep saying that there is an imaginary war on Christmas. A Presidential candidate has a message stating that during this time of year we should stop and celebrate Christmas, and everyone is up in arms because he is being exclusionary.

LOL, I'm shocked! I asked him if he wanted to ask a question, using YA forum. I asked him what do you care about the most. He said "the Military!" I looked at him, my mouth agape, and he said "we'll, you, too!"
Have I drilled the love I have for the military too strongly into him?
