Without being Politically Correct as too many tend to be even in this forum.
No discomfort about it. If I found out there was a gay person in my barracks they would have alternate sleeping and shower arrangements until I could get them processed out.
No ifs buts or ands about it.

Nope. The only discomfort I went through was when NIS came to interview me, when I was an enlisted man, because of another Hospital Corpsman. Until they did I had no idea the guy was a homosexual.
I also knew a fellow in San Diego many years ago who played piano at a restaurant and bar. During World War Two he was the Flag Lieutenant of a very senior Naval officer in the Pacific Theater and served honorably throughout the war. That piano player was a homosexual as well. I never felt uncomfortable in either man's presence, because neither of them ever tried to proposition me.

I don't think many gay guys would try making any moves on an uncomfortable straight man with a gun... hopefully, that's not a problem in the military.
I could understand somebody being uncomfortable if a person was trying to openly display it... otherwise I don't see why people would be too uncomfortable.

Doesn't really matter as long as the person could do the assign job. The military isn't an easy place for a gay to be if they can't do their job and keep up with the straight guys.

Canadian army and most NATO countries have them serving openly.
Had no problem with the communal showers or anything.
They're friends and fellow soldiers. Ain't no thang, besides, gay guys always have hot female friends, they're good people to be buddies with.
Only ones who are uncomfortable are the ones not reallly secure in their own sexuality. To them I suggest, grow up.

I've known homo-sexuals in the military who were all but open on their sexuality. The only time I would really feel uncomfertable is in basic training or at a FOB where community showers are employed.
Call me narrow-minded I just don't like the idea of it.

You're reading to far into the policy. I served with a couple of guys that where gay and the whole unit knew it. It didn't have any affect on us because they pretty much kept it to themselves, and one of them was a friend of mine and we rode motocross together every weekend. We also took weekend trips to his parents house and rode our motorcycles all over the place whenever we found an opportunity. Being gay doesn't change what you can contribute to a unit.

My roommate was gay. He didn't bother me and he kept it to himself. We were good friends, he did his job and never bothered anyone or acted gay. I could care less that he was gay, just as I would care less if I was bunked with a female.

Definitely not. They are there to do a job like everyone else.
There are gays in the military right now and have been. They just cannot admit it.
