To anyone who has switched branches and been both a Marine and a Soldier, what did you think? I know everyone's opinions will be different, but, basically, which did you prefer and why? Which branch did you join first? Why did you switch? What was your MOS? If you could do it again, what would you have done? Not saying one branch is better than the other, but people are different and have different wants. I just want to compare answers. Maybe tell me a little about your personality and what you were looking for in the military? The more answers, the better. Thanks!

My fiancee is in AIT at Ft Huachuca, AZ. We want to get married during exodus break, when he is home. He will return to AZ to continue AIT at the beginning of the year until March. There is a rumor/story stating if he marries during exodus he must stay in AZ for a year without any dependants and would have to live off base. Has anyone ever heard of this? Or any truths to this?
Thanks for any help!

When I served in the military a few years ago, the standard was (and still is) a unit in formation would salute an approaching officer.

What I also learned in the military, was that the Russians had this reversed. The power of the people was so esteemed that officers saluted the unit. Now, I'm sure that individual soldiers bumping into officers would still initiate a salute, but when an officer addressed a formation of soldiers, it was the officer saluting first.

I think we can learn something from this. In our American society of freedom, individualism and "Power by the People, For the People, etc..." is it not elitist that a formation of soldiers standing at attention would have to salute an officer first?

I think we need to change this protocol in our armed services. While officers lead, they should always acknowledge where their real authority comes from: the very "People" in or out of uniform.

Thoughts?

I have a serious question I have myasthenia Gravis. However, I’m in excellent shape. No one would no If I didn’t tell them. I run 3 to 5 miles a few times a week. I lift weights and exercise a few hours a day. I simply take meds twice a day in the morning and before I got to bed. I have had it since I was six(23 years old now) and Its relatively stable throughout that time. I am currently in the last stages of becoming a deputy sheriff but that’s not what I really want to do. I want to join the Navy as an officer (Degree Political science). I know it would probably DQ me but is it worth a shot. I heard some things are heard on a case by case basis. Is that true? Myasthenia gravis is different for EVERYONE(snowflake disease) so, not all of us same condition. A good amount of people in my family are in the navy and I’m in waaaay better shape than they are. I just need to take meds twice a day. Can someone with please help me? I do have other options but it would just be nice to know.

I was thinking of enlisting into the Navy during college but figured it's more logical to become an officer after graduation if I wanted. Does anyone know what the average salary is and how satisfying the job is?

Ok the iowa's i belive are now being retired so i don't think i can hope seeing a 21st battleship anymore, eh, so much for the large caliber guns able to level cities that no other ship can using convential weapons.....it's sad to see them go and see them get replaced a by a crappy destroyer that probabley won't even be able to take a single hit from a harpoon, strangley enough, why not have both but it is....sad and stupid at the same time, I thought i would never see it happen, a destroyer replacing a battlehip.........

In the last 6 years, 4 million people have been killed in a war in the Congo. Few people in the West know about it. Why did we not stop it? Why are we not stopping it now?

I will be in the ROTC program at my college when i return from BCT this summer. I scored an 80 on the ASVAB and would love to earn the right to try Ranger school.

The main reason i want to know about promotion time is because i have yet to decide if i am going active duty or national guard, so if someone knows the time frame for both areas of service that would be very helpful.

I'm looking for a nice bolt-action. I went to Scheel's Sports last night and found a nice Stevens/Savage Arms .30-06 for around $350 and a couple smaller calibers for around the same price. All of them come with a package and all they really need is a final sight-in.

Is this a good deal? What should I consider for a first bolt-action and what kind of other informations?

Okay I went thru meps in late oct. and the medical ppl say I'm goin blind in one eye and that if I got into a fight I would be blind. They asked for my paperwork from my doctors in later years about my eyes and they sent it off to the main army base to see if they will approve me or not. It's been a month and I'm still waiting.. does this mean I'm not going to get in? I'm ready to ship for basic.. I'm trying to leave mid Jan early Feb. I'm trying to join the army active duty, not reserves. Someone help! I'm really hoping the accept me.. cuz I'm READY!

Im currently a PFC, im in iraq right now and will be until dec 2008. my ets is not until april 2010. I wont be able for a waiver for e4 until may 08, my 2 year is in nov of 08. So heres my dilemma. Im an 11 Bravo and i am wanting to reenlist, but all i care about is getting ft sam houston as my duty station. i realize there is no infantry there, so my question is, when is my window to reenlist? is it possible for them to pick an mos for me (or give me the choice) and give me ft sam? or can they send an 11 B there and have me tasked out to do something else once i get there? lastly is there a way to get it in my contract to make it a permanent duty station? i could care less about the sign on bonus. Unfortunately i have not had time to talk to the re-up NCO, so any information would be appreciated
