Okay I went thru meps in late oct. and the medical ppl say I'm goin blind in one eye and that if I got into a fight I would be blind. They asked for my paperwork from my doctors in later years about my eyes and they sent it off to the main army base to see if they will approve me or not. It's been a month and I'm still waiting.. does this mean I'm not going to get in? I'm ready to ship for basic.. I'm trying to leave mid Jan early Feb. I'm trying to join the army active duty, not reserves. Someone help! I'm really hoping the accept me.. cuz I'm READY!

I've been calling him and he keeps saying I'll let you know when I hear something. Why is it taking so long for them to tell me whats going on and if they will let me in or not? I'm willing to get the lasic surgery and everything to correct my eyes. Can I join the Navy??

Here's the vision requirements for corrected vision. Anything worse is disqualifying. So, you can figure out whether or not you meet the standard:
20/20 in the better eye. 20/400 in the other.
20/30 in the better eye. 20/100 in the other.
20/40 in the better eye. 20/70 in the other.
Waivers are normally granted only for refractive error on correction vision which exceeds plus or minus eight diopters of refractive index.

don't sweet it. you will probably make it. i think legally blind is -400. i had 450 and i knew a guy with 850. the army offers PRK not so much lasic eye surgery. i had it and LOVE IT! i recommend it to everyone. although i was in a group of 11 others in my unit that had it done, i was the only one who had a slight problem. and i see a dirty 20/20 (which means every now and then i see 20/25, but still huge improvement)

i would say as long as you can see with glasses, you will be alright. you should bug your recruiter. sooner or later he will get sick and tired of seeing you and work on your packet. if he has made his quota for the month, he probably isn't working too hard for you. the wavier should have been in by now. the good news, once it comes in you can literally ship in days, depending on your MOS.

I too required what is called a waiver for the Army, also for my eyes. Did they send you to an eye specialist? If they did, you will prolly get a waiver, if not, you will prolly not get it. Waivers usually take two weeks. If you didnt get it yet, i would prepare to try another branch. The navy is very hard to get waivers from. Try the air force though, long as you are not flying, they may work with ya. Good luck!

At this point, you're probably not going to make January. They'll tell you the results either way. Call up the recruiter.

The ARMY is more lenient about health problems than other branches of the military. The Air Force will definitely not even consider you.
