I was thinking of enlisting into the Navy during college but figured it's more logical to become an officer after graduation if I wanted. Does anyone know what the average salary is and how satisfying the job is?

Of course it does.

You won't get rich in any of the services, but you will find that the money isn't bad at all. As to job saticfaction, a military career can be far more satisfying than anything on the civilian side, just because of the amazing breadth of experiences you can have in the course of your service.

Here is the 2007 salary scale. The rates will go up 3.5% in January. If you join ROTC in college, it will cover your expenses and you will be commissioned when you graduate. Satisfaction is a subjective concept. Some people love military life, others hate it.
