To anyone who has switched branches and been both a Marine and a Soldier, what did you think? I know everyone's opinions will be different, but, basically, which did you prefer and why? Which branch did you join first? Why did you switch? What was your MOS? If you could do it again, what would you have done? Not saying one branch is better than the other, but people are different and have different wants. I just want to compare answers. Maybe tell me a little about your personality and what you were looking for in the military? The more answers, the better. Thanks!

Well just a little background on me personally: I love the sense of pride, brotherhood, discipline, and especially hard work I get from the Corps. On the other hand the Army offers things like 68W and airborne school that catch my interest considering I don't know an MOS. Were I not female, I would love something like infantry or SF.

My stepfather did both. He prefers the Army, but his values are completely different from mine. He's more concerned about money and being an officer.

If you have any advice for my situation, it would be appreciated, but if not, I'm mostly interested in hearing your stories anyways. Again just to compare.

I began in the Marine Corp from 1995-2000 as an infantryman 0311 and enjoyed it very much. The reason I left is because I got married and had a daughter on the way. I was deployed for 3 years of my 4 1/2 years in and went to 52 countrys. The traveling and ship life was great. I switched to the Army for more stability for my family and to change MOS's because the Marines wouldnt let me. Now I have 4 MOS's and been able to stay with my daughter for most of my time now. They both were great and had their purpose. The Army allowed me to get more education in as well. If you have any questions feel free to contact me and we can discuss it more indepth off line if you would like. selten_nate@yahoo.com

I have not served in both, but have know people who have, so I can offer some second hand observations if you like.

Some folks liked the Marines, even though the going was tougher. Few liked the Army.

Must be an Esprit de Corps thing.

I had at least 5 Soldiers who were formally in the USMC and changed to the Army.

They have all said that the Army had a lot more common sense. I had a hard time believing it.
