Have you ever noticed how many people, when someone mentions their desire to join the military, say, "Oh, you know you'll probably wind up in Iraq."

Do they honestly think people are so dumb they don't realize that there's a possibility that after they join the military they might be (*gasp*) deployed? I mean, hasn't it been part of a soldier's job description since the dawn of time to go to war if called upon to do so?

There are still a lot of recruiters who softpedal the being deployed part. They have to in order to get people in uniform.

Not surprisingly, some parents are now stepping up to the plate and telling their kids no.

Sometimes the recruiters from the military tell people or suggest to them that they will stay in the country, just to get them to join. Sometimes people want to believe so greatly that they will stay in the country that they allow themselves to accept these fabricated offers.

Good question. I'm tired of people talking about their "children" dying in Iraq when they're much more likely to die here in a car accident at the hands of their drunk, loser friends who didn't enlist.
