This is for prior/current Military. What is the Dumbest thing you ever seen someone do? The kind of stupidity where you do not even know what say to the person, while thinking natural selection missed this person type stupid.

During WW2, if the U.S. army, at it's peak, had gone up against the German Wermacht at it's zenith, which army would've most likely won out? I'm speaking in terms of equipment, training, manpower, strategy, leadership, resources, etc. Which side do you think would've had the edge and why? Yes, this is purely hypothetical speculation.

I have heard that the government will pay like a certain percentage for a military husband's spouse. Is that true? And as a military wife can you take classes on the base at a reduced rate?

Just out of curiosity, what would a Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps do all day? Or any other high ranked NCO for that matter.

What would the two or three ranks just below him do?

It seems like it would take 10 or more years to get this rank, so he couldn't out killing terrorists, fixing trucks, ect. He'd be too old.

Off the top of my head I can't think of anything this guy would do besides make descisions. But on the other hand, he's not commissioned, and the commisioned officers are incharge of descision making.

The whole thing confuses me.

I'm a single female, age 29. DEP recruit, ship in May.
I know it's not all up to me, but as a proactive, resourceful gal, I'm doing my homework before I go.

A few questions:
How much say do I get in choosing my language?
What languages are most desirable and needed - both IN the service, AND once I'm out (unless I decide to stay for my 20)?

Should I learn some basics in several now (library tapes, etc) to see what languages I like/relate to more?

Training is intense, but after that what is a typical day life? Sea or shore duty differences? Paperwork-intensive or not? Challenging consistently or ho-hum? Time off? Travel opps?
Earning/advancement potential?

A couple details about me for context:
I REALLY want to travel.
French is my 2nd language. I'm fairly proficient, I've retained much from high school & college. I speak some Spanish, but am far from fluent.
I got a 119 on the DLAB (what a hard but great test!)

I appreciate any tips, advice, or cautionary tales you can share.

Ok, so I have been at odds with my LPO and chief about the way they have been treating me...Basically I was fired from supervisor and demoted to worker, but when anything went wrong (esp when I was gone) I would come back and they would blame it on me but then when they couldn't I was their little miracle worker (no pun intended) and could fix anything...I have spent the last 3 months bailing them out and today they sent me up to talk to someone and I got my *** chewed for no reason so I came back down and informed them that I was going to my Dept Head, and I did...

Well after talking to him, he called them in and they completely turned the situation on me (go fig.) and that they had nothing personal against me and blah blah blah...Well he sided with them and I couldn't win regardless of what I said, I finally said that it was over and we could let it go...should I have done that knowing that I was on the losing end or continued to fight?

I may be considering the US Navy but I may get in there and hate my life cuz I heard many say the US Navy sucks *** and the sailors suck "you know what". I don't wanna deal with that. So does the US Navy really have a bad name? Maybe I should choose the easy-going Air Force or perhaps the Almighty Marines!

I had an associate some time ago recommend to me that when I visit Paris I stay in the French Officer's club/museum/hotel (also open to Officer's of allies - I'm a U.S. Army Officer). I wasn't smart enough to keep the business card of the place and now that I plan to go I am having no luck "googling" it. Does anyone know the official name for this establishment? Thanks!
