I may be considering the US Navy but I may get in there and hate my life cuz I heard many say the US Navy sucks *** and the sailors suck "you know what". I don't wanna deal with that. So does the US Navy really have a bad name? Maybe I should choose the easy-going Air Force or perhaps the Almighty Marines!

Consider who's trashing the Navy. Are they Navy, or are they from some other branch of the armed forces, or are they people who've never been in the military at all?

If they're ex-Navy, did they get out on a dishonorable discharge?

An inner-city crook won't think much of the police. Who are these people that don't like the Navy?

The Navy only sucks if you are stuck in a job you dislike. Ace the ASVAB, get a rating that you would enjoy (for goodness sakes do some research, ask current sailors and officers about what is available). There are some unpleasant aspects, living with 30-60 people, doing watches - generally every fourth day you are stuck within a certain area (varies from ship to ship) on call 24-7-365.25.

If you do as you are told and stay away from alcohol (probably the leading cause of Captain's Mast and court-martials) you should have a great time. Do your homework, investigate all the branches, though you probably shouldn't follow my path: Enlisted Navy, Officer Air Force, better to decide on one branch and stick with it.

The navy is the best of all the branches. Its a simple fact.
1) the navy has a more elite ground force than the marines it called the SEALS marines would piss there pants in a fight with them
2) the best pilates come from the navy. Alot end up at NASA.
ironically not the air force
3) they get to see alot more than the dessert there on the beaches half the time.

I had a choice of any of the armed forces when I was in high school. I chose the Navy because they had the best offer. Most people I knew in high school wanted to join the other branches. I served in active duty for six years, then stayed in the reserves to this day; all the others left after four years, if not earlier. Only one (who joined the National Guard) stayed in long enough to retire. If the other branches were so much better, then when did they not stay in?

I am grateful for my time in the Navy. I got to see alot of the world and made rank faster while on active duty than I would have in the Air Force.

Don't take the word of one person who had a bad experience or who may never have served at all. Also, don't get caught up in the hype of the military rivalry. It's true, members of all branches take delight in verbally smearing the other branches of the military. However, this is done in jest (at least by most who take part in the game). I spent four years in the Army (87-91), and still take great delight in tearing to shreds a good friend of mine who is an Lt. Col. in the marines. Of course, I also rip apart another friend of mine who is a Lt. Col. in the Army Reserve, but that's because he's an officer. (So that's two strikes against the Marine: Marine AND Officer.) In the end, I have the utmost respect for both men. Do your homework and find what branch would serve you best. But going in with the attitude that you think one particular branch sucks is not the best idea.

Lets get one thing straight....the Navy doesn't suck!! Every branch of the military gets sh*t on and the people who talk crap aren' t even in the service. So if your going to be saying " I don't want to deal with that"..then why join the military because it sounds like to me that you think its an easy job. Think again sweetheart. What happens when your in bootcamp and have guys giving you **** or the instructers yelling at you...are you gonna say I don't want to deal with that. If your looking for an easy job then maybe you shouldn't consider the military

Being a sailor, I will defend this from both sides...There are times when life is hard and things suck...that is just par for the course and you will find that in ANY branch of the service. There are also times where it is rewarding knowing that you are helping defend your country (I was at sea on 9/11 and we bombed the bad guys) There are also liberty ports around the world and there is nothing more fun than visiting new countries and having fun :)

Air Force you pretty much need a college degree. They need to be the most intelligent of all of them. And the Marines, you need to be like a separate breed to be a Marine. The navy is a fair combination of both. You could be anything from a cook to a Navy Seal.

They do not suck. Any military is good. the navy has a bad name because they say that most of the people that are apart of the navy are gay. But it's worth going it's the second easiest to get into if that's what you are worried about. The Marines and special forces are the hardest. there is nothing wrong with the navy it's your own preference. But if you have more the 4 tats then you won't be able to get in i had that problem.

No the Navy doesn't because of the Marines.

The Marines are a Department of the Navy.

The Marines are the most badass kinda people you will ever come across.
