I have heard that the government will pay like a certain percentage for a military husband's spouse. Is that true? And as a military wife can you take classes on the base at a reduced rate?

there is a new pilot program out there. currently the only Marine bases that participate are Camp Pendleton in San Diego, and K Bay in Hawai'i It is open to spouses of E1-E5 and O1-O3 only. It is for a grant of up to $3000 /year for a maximum of two years. the money is paid directly to the institution, not the spouse.

go to the base education center for more details.

There is another program that only the ARMY offers, which allows a SM to transfer up to $18K of his GI bill to a spouse or minor children. they must be at least an E5,m must re up for a minimum of 4 years, and only a few MOSs qualify.

other opportunities include grants and scholarships available from on base organizations such as the Spouses' Club or the relief Societies. On base tuition is usually slightly cheaper, but the degree programs are limited.

Some bases work with local colleges to offer classes on base. There may be certain individual federal/state grants you can apply for as a military spouse.

Veteran's Affairs sometimes offer spouses assistance with educational aid. (Do an internet search for Dependent's Educational Assistance).

Also, the Servicemember's Opportunity Colleges (SOC) may offer educational opportunities for spouses. Search for SOC opportunities by the branch in which the service member is currently serving.

I would suggest you doing internet searches for the programs I mentioned above, or visit your local library for resources on the subject. I hope this is helpful.
