Military - November 2007

so here is what happened.... Im done with meps and am now waiting to be shipped to basic in april.... But I have to keep contact with my recruiter, and he said that he will pop random drug test on me...
Well some things happened and I inhaled THC thinking it was a cigarette while at a local party... If I get drug tested could I get charges or be dishonorably dischargered from the military?

I've had freedom of speech for a very long time... in fact, my whole life.

Some soldiers certainly made that possible a long time ago.

But today's war isn't really about that, is it?

And why are protesters always considered the "enemy of free speech" with this particular type of person?

Can't protesters lay just as much claim to earning their freedom these days?

Now, if you're going to berate me and claim that I'm anti-military, then do what you must but it's only going to be a matter of time before your ideology is the least popular one.

As a 20 year old civilian, currently a sophomore in college, is it possible to be accepted in to OCS if I enlist? Clean record, not even a parking ticket, 3.2 GPA, don’t drink, don’t smoke, no drugs. I read that the main ways to become an officer are ROTC and OCS, but if I can become an officer by enlisting, I’ll just save my time and enlist. Rather than wait 2 years.

I was diagnosed with asthma in April of this year during my 4th week in AF bmt. I have NEVER had an asthma attack in my life. I was at chow had a chest pain and was sent to the ER. They ran a number of test including the methacoline challenge (a common asthma test) then asked me if i wanted to stay in...I said yes and still got discharged(My home life was terrible so I had nothing to lose by staying in). My re-entry code is a 4C which means I need a waiver to re-enlist. I take a pulmonary funtion test Monday and I was wondering what if that test shows that I have mild/moderate asthma. Will I be able to produce a waiver with that or are my military dreams over?

I know the military pays on the first and 15th but what if those days fall on a weekend. When do they deposit the checks through direct deposit or give out pay?

I am feeling a bit lazy and besides it is too late in the day to talk to my recruiter now. So my question is what type of ships do a Store Keeper work on? I heard the bigger the ship the less ports it can visit. Can anyone just give me a good answer?

By the way, Store Keeper is my rate and I can't wait to serve in the USN...I leave for boot camp 20 FEB 2008...

i've been thinking about joining the army. i've talked to my family members about it, and they seem okay with it. (probably because they think i wont ever do it) but i think it would be a good thing for me.

what do you think i should know or consider before i talk to a recruiter.

my mom said that i need to make sure i get something out of it before i just jump into it.. like a career lined up. im thinking medical?

I have an associates degree from an elite military college in the east coast. After that I went to AU where I am less then a year from my BA and am in top physical shape. That I know of I meet all the requirements to fly in the civilian world but I would love to serve my country once i'm out of college. I want to know if wearing glasses would ground me and yes my eyesight without my glasses is horrible.

My sister has been in Iraq for 1 month, her husband, also in the army is home in germany with their 6 month old baby. Their baby died this morning (sids??) and we have received little to no information. All we know is that she is being flown back to Germany. The Army has her husband in some sort of "custody" suicide watch, and the baby was taken for an autoposy. It's almost 24 hours since she was notified of the death in Iraq and she has not yet returned to Germany or called home with further info. When will her husband be realeased and when will the baby get to come home to the states for a proper burial?

How do you feel about the lack of policy regarding what troops wear in public.
It used to be a regulation that one could not wear BDU's off base and in public unless it was to and from off base quarters.
While traveling, only dress uniforms or civilian clothing were to be worn.
Does the military even issue various dress uniforms anymore?
All I see now is people wearing BDU's and it seems a lot of civilians are now wearing them around town also.
