umm are you going DC or HM? two totally different things, and what's more, do NOT translate into a civilian FF or EMT position. you would still have to go through all civilian training required of your local department.

only the Air Force offers true firefighting.. all other branches use civilians on their bases and at sea.. well, different problems to worry about there...like giant holes in the hull.

yeah, but you're probably better off going into the airforce for fire protection. In the Navy you only do shipboard firefighting unless you get to go to the DOD fire academy after a few years to get your structural and arff certs. The airforce gives you all kinds of cert-based training even after school as well as more opportunities for duty stations and experience. Not to mention your quality of life will be significantly better. Don't let your preconcieved notions about any one service influence your descision, take my word for it. I've been through the DOD fire academy and worked with military firefighters from all branches.

yes! more so then anyone else trying to get a civilian fire fighter job!

fyi- you'll probably find that the benifits are better in the military and just end up staying in
