For the same reason we pronounce Colonel as "kernel". It's a word not of english origin that's kept its original pronunciation.

"Corps" and "Corpse" obviously have the same word origin, meaning "the Body." Just liek "Corpus Christi" means the "Body of Christ."
Corps come sto English by way of French, and just as we English speakers are want to do...we kept the original French pronounciation.

lol i ask my husband that all the time. hes in the signal corps so i say it as corpS. just to tick him off. lol i asked him the same question and he said...i dunno. cause they tell us to say it like that so i do..that way i dont end up trying to push the grass to china.

It has something to do with the marines and the way that they do things. I remember reading somewhere a while ago but I cannot remember the exact reason. if I find it I will let you know.
