does infantry wear the blue disc background on the insignia on the service cap with the blues? i sure hope not cause i CAN'T fit the thing thru the hole with the blue disc....
any help would be great.

Yes. It's the same Blue disk as used on Drill Sergeant Hats.

Use your Gerber to tighten the nut while pushing hard on the insignia.

Source(s) AR 670-1, para 28-30 Distinctive Items Authorized for Infantry Personel c. Insignia disk, service cap.
(1) Description. A plastic disk in infantry blue, 13⁄4 inches in diameter.
(2) Approval authority. The same as in paragraph a(2), above. The insignia is issued without cost to enlisted
personnel.
(3) How worn. The blue infantry disk is worn secured beneath the insignia on the blue and green service caps and
the male drill sergeant hat (see fig 28–173).
