During WW2, if the U.S. army, at it's peak, had gone up against the German Wermacht at it's zenith, which army would've most likely won out? I'm speaking in terms of equipment, training, manpower, strategy, leadership, resources, etc. Which side do you think would've had the edge and why? Yes, this is purely hypothetical speculation.

During the years it was involved in the war, the US produced more than 300,000 aircraft by itself. That's more than every other WWII country combined.

And we had nukes.

We had the edge in materiel, morale, weapons, economy, production capability, fighting aged population, and resources... we also had more stable supply lines (albiet longer... sink a transport ship and you can sail another one over that same spot the next day, bomb a railroad bridge and that supply line is GONE for a long time).

Edit: I think some answerers are forgetting we're talking about BOTH armies at their peaks... that means BOTH sides have combat seasoned troops and Eisenhower, MacArthur and Patton were well experienced by that point... Sure, pre-War US vs a spun up germany is a no contest, but fully employed America trumped Germany even at it's highest.

The Germans with out a doubt. Much of their equipment such as thir standard issuied helment, and their guns such as Mg-42, and Mp-44 can still be seeen into todays weapons like the M-60, and ak-47 and even the M-16. Which means they were in theory, with the right men (let say some elite fallschrimjagers) a deadly and overwhelming force. If it was not for the U.S.S.R's sure numbers, and the good ol' US of A's mass production I think the wolrd would be filled with blonde and blue eyed people! Then again the guy above is right a A-bomb is deadly but, Germany would have been quick to catch up... V-2's ...

well there were 3 armies that come to mind
the first one is japan, they had a limited resources, the leaders were okay ....they were willing to go all the way for the victory at any price
then comes the u.s.a. we were a bit behind but we did good ,even thought we came to the fight behind everyone else...but we caught up fast and then took over
the last one to talk about is Germany they had everything in there favor but one .....poor leadership in the middle of world war2 if they were able to keep it together things would be different ..just think about it

Germany if they were only fighting the US. By 1941, we were so far behind the Germans in every aspect of making war. We possessed the greater potential, but they possess the better actual military. We realized our potential by the end of the war, which is why the Allies won, but at the beginning, they were far stronger. It took 20 million Russian deaths to sap Germany's resources, allowing us to prevail. Without Russia, it would have cost millions of American dead to secure the same result.

The germans.

The USA forces were badly led and poorly trained. If you look at just the Normandy invasion, the american troops were offered special equipment as used by the British and Canadian forces but didn't "need it".

As a result the only reason they got off the beaches at all was through the heroism of the GIs. They were let down by poor leaders that didn't care how many died, and weren't prepared to take advice.

There is no hypothetical, because the first years of WW2 Germany's army ruled in Western Europe.
