It used to be illegal and a courts martial offence in the British forces. BUT that didn't stop it happening. I daresay it still is

I would happily fight alongside a gay soldier. Just because a bloke is gay doesn't turn him into a screaming shirt-lifter. In fact, allowing gay soldiers to come out would be beneficial because they could concentrate on the more serious business of soldiering instead of worrying about witch hunts.

Surely skill before sexuality should be the order of the day?

The Spartan army, the "300" were made up of couples and they fought well.

The only thing I'd be concerned of is some Gay General giving me a physical, It would also be difficult to sleep at night ---lol

I already had a couple of Gay looking PE teachers in Middle School and High School who all gave me an "F" for Not dressing down.

Of course. There is no logical reason to ban homosexuals from the military. I believe there are anti-discrimination laws in this country which prevents employers from not considering a person for a position just because they are gay. Yet the armed forces, the national defenders, operated by the U.S. government themselves.

What kind of example is that, that the U.S. military doesn't want gay Americans to serve? I personally don't care or want to know what anybody does as far as intimacy; why does it matter to the military?

This is just one of the last leftover laws from this country's dark days, where we didn't see everybody as equal. Get rid of it.

I do not have a problem with gays in the military. They are just ordinary people. Frankly, I don't think that is anyone's business. They are the ones protecting our country. How many people would do that and sacrafice alot to do so. I just dont think it should be an issue

I have lived barracks life and know the seething hatred young troops have towards homosexuals. There is an imminent danger for anyone who is outed because he is gay. Strange things happen once the barracks lights go out. Trust me, they are not of a romantic nature.

Double-edged this one. Gays are pro-male and the non-effeminate ones make superb soldiers. However, many straights find tgheir presence unsettling. Toss a coin!

I don't see a problem with it. There are constant comments about how the amount of people joining up with the military is down, but they are preventing healthy/willing people from joining....it's a bit stupid. But I can see issues arising....

I'm for. They are everyday people like you and I. What they do behind the door shouldn't be held against them. It's like telling me I can't be in the military because I'm black. Honestly, they are everyday people like you and me who pay there taxes, work hard and live. Don't ask Don't tell should be kept in place. If they want to fight for their country, let them.
Like the Marine Corps. There is only one color, GREEN!!!

Gay soldiers shoot just as straight as straight soldiers. (unless you are American, then all bullets and missiles and magically drawn to anything flying a British flag)
There is no distinction between gay and straight, just those that are part of the team and those that arent.

Don't care if I don't know. I have known a couple, but when word gets out it is a bad day! Bad for the Unit!
