Hind sight is always 20/20, so it is easy to pass judgement. But if I were that lady I would have said, look, you can arrest me, write me a ticket, whatever, but I am going to see my father in the emergency room - in cuffs if you want, but let me see my dad.

I guess cops hear every story under the sun, but in the three minutes it took him to write this ticket, while she waited in the car, he could easily have verified her story - he was just a jerk, and hey, two white people too, so I guess even whitey has to eat hood occasionally even when it isn't justified.

Do we need more stringent laws as a deterrent? Some other country's, ie singapore, have laws that fit the crime. They're crime rate is nothing compared to ours. Should we take lessons from some of these othere countries? I lived in Singapore for 2 1/2 years so I do have first hand experience.

I have reason to believe the police may want to tap my land line phone. Whenever I call certain phone numbers While I am talking it sounds like someone presses a number to dial. I ask my friends if it was them and it is not. This doesnt happen every once and a while it always happens with certain phone numbers. Also ocasionally the phone will ring only once with no one on it. Is there any way to tell if my phone is taped?

even news reporters were caught with beatings with the May day protest of the immigrants wanting to get legal papers to work in the U.S., I just don't understand it was a calm march when these police officers come out of no where and start beating people even women and children and even news reporters. Something needs to be done, and the Chief of Police needs to stop acting like nothings wrong or taking the police side because I hope people file complaints against the racist police department. What do you guys think about this horrible situation?

Okay here is the question ...

My son has an outstanding speeding ticket that I was not aware of until he came home from college today. Tomorrow morning is his court date.

(It is an IL speeding ticket and as I have been told that he was going 25 miles over the speed limit ... ouch ... was all I could say.)

He is intending on paying for the ticket if he has to, however he has been told that he can go to court and talk to the judge about removing it from his record. (College students seem to think they can conquer and change the way it works ... and he has been asking all of his buds what to do.)

If he can't pay the ticket tomorrow ... what happens? As I understand that he will be required to pay for the ticket to get his license back, which makes complete sense (to me but not to a 21 year old), however he thinks he can make arrangements to have it paid for and get the license back.

Does anyone know the extended penalties for non payment? Bench Warrant issues?

Last night I was driving on a road that was 45mph. I was going about 40 and dropped my prelude in 2nd and took off. A second or two later a cop passes me, going the opposite way. He locks up his brakes and circles around after me. I turn off on the first road I see and pass two cars on a double-yellow line in the process. All of the sudden I see his lights in my mirror. So I pull over and he gives me a ticket which says:

Without due caution and circumspection and at a speed or in a manner so as to endanger persons and property to wit: speed 70/45 in sharp curve, heavy traffic, unsafe passing.

So now I have court on May 15th. I'm 18 and I haven't told either of my parents yet. I have never been pulled over before, although, 2 weeks ago I did get a ticket for breaking and entering (exploring an abandoned warehouse) and I have court for that this summer.

What should I do? Should I get a lawyer? What kind of punishment comes with reckless driving and going 25 over the speed limit?

The lady that was stopped, ran from the police then got arrested all because her dad had a heart attack.

Isnt she kind of a drama queen? I mean her dad drove himself to the hospital, its not like he was so bad off he couldnt make it there? Also I dont knwo many people that freak out before they knwo all the facts about a loved one in the hospital.

If a police officer or family member gets pulled over for breaking a traffic violation they just need to say they are a police officer and drive away scott-free. It is colled "Professional Courtesy".

I ask this because my buddies father is a cop, and he has been pulled over 3 times in the past year and just tells them about his father and he drives away with out a ticket . I was with him one time and he got away with going 17 over the speed limit. In the mean time I get pulled over by the same HP and I get a ticket for going 8 over. This is Crap!

After watching a video on yahoo I started wondering, how could someone who is in a life threatening stituation get where they are going if they are stoped by the police? If you are in a hurry to a burning home, or rushing off to meet you father at the hospital for a heart attack, how do you deal with an officer who pulled you over? Obviously he isn't going to believe you. He may even get more annoied at the fact that your telling him such an "outlandish" story. What would you do?
