You dont need a permit for a gun in illinois, If you are buying a long gun. Pistols need to be registered with the State Police. You will need a FOID card to buy anything tho. If you are asking about concealed carry, that is illegal in illinois.

It is illegal to carry a gun in Illinois. No one but law enforcement officials and criminals may carry guns there. They do not issue Carry permits to civilians. I have a general ccw permit in Michigan and as a courtesy I called Ill. state police and informed them I was traveling through their state with a concealed weapon and they informed me that if I was caught I would go to prison for a minimum of five years. Since I am a law abiding citizen I carried it anyway. Rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6

I would move to another state where they want to uphold the second amendment , and where they don't have Daley and Blagojivich.
