Your buddy is lucky then. If he gets pulled over in another jurisdiction he may not be so fortunate. For minor traffic violations it is the officers discretion. Usually an officer will not ticket one of their own. its a possible benefit for those that put their lives on the line, and get little thanks. Get over it, i'm sure you get a perk somewhere else. But it doesn't happen all the time, cops give cops tickets too, it depends on the specific situation.

So I look at this question and Jace's reply about how police officers and their families get off scott-free. I go to the web site Jace has in his reply, and this is what I see....
"About a month ago, my wife received a ticket from a Police Officer that works for a PD in the same county that I work for. I live in his city/zone and have always had positive interatctions with the guys from his agency."
http://forums.officer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=65375
So I guess the answer is that not everyone gets off scott-free that's related to a police officer.

seems like your a little jealous, it happens in all field of work, professional courtesy is in no ways confined to the police departments. Lawyers, Doctors, contractors, car dealers, soldiers, politicians, teaches, truck drivers, etc, all have ways of watching out for one another. So maybe you should become a Police Officer? Why not? all departments are always looking for some good recruits, and then you can be in on the loop you are worried others are enjoying.

Its kind of like how store employees can get thier family members 10% off of things. Except in a different way. Just next time tell them that your dad is a cop for some out of state department. Best of luck

Are you just jealous because your Dad isn't a cop? Or that you got a ticket and he didn't?
Did you know that's why sharks don't bite lawyers? Professional courtesy.
You want fair? Did you report the officer that DIDN'T give your buddy a ticket when it happened? He was breaking the rules too. Life isn't fair. Live with it. Life isn't fair it's just life. You want justice? There is no justice there is just us.
Professional courtesy applys to many professions.

They are suppose to obey the very laws they enforce. If you witness this dereliction of duty and can back it up with proof, the offending officer, as well as the one letting him off for "professional courtesy" are in BIG trouble.

Who really gives a damn? Does that exactly matter? If someone were to have a gun to your head, and you were being robbed who would you call? The police. Cops are always there if you're in danger, and they would die for your sake in a heartbeat, becuase that's there job. Cops see more s*** than you or anyone else would ever see everyday because that's what keeps food on the table. But that's just it, no one has any respect for them anymore.
Do you know why?
It's because of people like you who just like to point out every mistake you see in higher authority because you just want to feel that high authority. So that makes you inferior, because you know deep down that you need to rely on them, because they just might save your *** one day. So if a cop is late to work, let him go 6 miles over the speed limit. The only reason they pull over people is for the benifit and safety of YOU. Cops are trained to be proffesional drivers, so them going over the speed limit isn't going to be a problem because they know what they're doing, unlike the average Joe.
Have you noticed a pattern? Everything comes down to you, because you are equal to the people. Cops do what they do for the people.
Sorry if this came across as harsh, but my father was a cop who had to deal severe depression over what he saw every day, like I said, to benifit the people.

This happens in other professions, but you're not complaining about those, why?
My uncle is a chief and his son got a ticket in the city, so how did he get off "scott-free"?
Officers give warnings every day, trust me, I deal with them every day. They have the power to choose who they give those warnings to, how is that different than professional courtesy?

It depends if they keep breaking the law though it also depends on if they are in their local jurisdiction or not / also the siblings or other family members usually get punished
