Do we need more stringent laws as a deterrent? Some other country's, ie singapore, have laws that fit the crime. They're crime rate is nothing compared to ours. Should we take lessons from some of these othere countries? I lived in Singapore for 2 1/2 years so I do have first hand experience.

You want tough laws like Singapore, move to Singapore. In the mean time, there's a Constitution here you need to get acquainted with.

As Ghandi said, "An eye for an eye and soon the whole world is blind."

I have been in law enforcement for over 24 years... I think there should be a zero tolerance policy on Child Molesters, First Degree Murders and Rapist. It should be a one strike and you are in prison for life with out parole or you receive the death penalty for these crimes.

Rehabilitation for these top three is a myth. The offenders are just plain evil and need to be locked away or killed to protect society from any attempt of them to re-offend in the future.

As a survivor of a male sexual abuser (I'm male), I am less than objective. This issue is so sensitive but it is important that it is discussed. Most abusers were abused themselves but that does not excuse their behavior. I believe the price for a crime of this nature should be death. I was 8 years old and this b.astard changed my life forever. My innocence was taken from me and I am still learning how this event continues to impact my life and my relationships. It has cost me so much emotionally and financially. I told my parents later in life and can only imagine their pain, as well; as I am a parent now. If I were to find out that this happened to my daughter, I would likely go to jail for killing the perpetrator. A society is judged by how well it cares for and protects its weakest and our society fails miserably.

I think child molesters should be given the death penalty with the first conviction no matter which "level" the shrink pegs him at.
At the very least, there should be neighborhoods where sex offenders are not allowed to enter for ANY reason. These neighborhoods should have homes for all income levels. And a sex offender should be put in jail for at least a year for crossing into a protected neighborhood.

Yes! I believe the punishment should fit the crime,,,,IF,,,IF,, the person really is proven guilty, not railroaded, like we have here! We NEED justice, in the American JUST-US system. My biggest fear in life, is knowing I can be convicted, ( AGAIN) for someting I did not have anything to do with. Hell of a feeling, to have after fighting for my rights, in the military. ( Jman states that cops do not lie,,not a consolense to me, at all,, just proves my point!!)

There are plenty of good laws on the books, the trouble rests with the judges and lawyers. Judges don't have the balls to lock people up and lawyer are paid to lie, cheat twist the truth, to get their client off, they don't give a damn about guilt of innocence

after listening to many of these and other posters on these forums, you can forget about it.people in the states think they can say,do whatever they want, and never face trouble.and if they do,here comes those pesky cops. lawyers, especially defence lawyers are the very problem with our great nation. constitution? liberals re-write the constitution every time they break the law,and hire a sleazy attorney to screw the system.we need tougher laws but i dont see it happening here.

For the most part yes. Death by flamethrower not unless I've been drinking or it's a cop that covered up for his serial rapist cop buddy by sending innocent people from the victim's families to jail on fake charges to teach the victim not to make complaints about the assault. But yeah I do to some extent.

Since we still have this sort of crime clearly our laws are not tough enough.
